I was really impressed by the latest product that Amazon is beginning to roll out for its members in America. I don’t know how long it is going to take to get to South Africa, but it is certainly something that will suit Woolworths, Pick ‘n Pay or any of the major retailers. Essentially, you get little buttons which are branded, and you place them near the place where you would typically use that product. For example, you would put the washing powder button on the washing machine and then next time you start running out of washing powder all you do is press the button and Amazon will, presumably within a day or two, deliver to your house more of that product!
The products that already have these buttons include toilet paper, tissues, babies’ nappies, wet wipes, water and all manner of soaps, dishwashing liquids, detergents, razor blades, shaving creams, etc, etc. If your children press a button by mistake you can stop it because you always get an order alert to your phone and you can cancel it if it is not correct. I guess its success is going to rely on the people pressing the buttons to continue pressing lots of buttons in the house, because it is not going to be that profitable if they have to drive around to your house simply to drop off some wet wipes, but no doubt this is something you are going to see in South Africa in a few years’ time.

Although it sounds amazing, I cant see that in practice it is going to be very successful, if you actually need to buy your monthly groceries, how many buttons can you actually have in one place, its a nice invention but maybe if they made it one big screen with lots of different products to choose from and you make one big list instead of just a product a day or when you think you need it. I think service providers should make their orders easier instead of complicating it.

This does sound interesting, it will definitely save us all a lot of petrol but as Dune said it would then again make a lot of people lazy and we already are lazy as it is and as Sally also mentioned it would make more opportunity for crime so as always there are positives and negatives but would be nice to try it.

I do not think this will work in South Africa with all the fraud and corruption going on, we will just create work for more criminals.

This is quite a nifty product, but the down side of this, it's going to make people lazy, will some people ever leave their houses again?

Technology today is really fantastic, but of coarse to make our life easier. I would consider to use this kind of technology if suddenly I need to wash something and do not have time to go shopping and still sit in the traffic to get to the shop. In Arabic Emirates I remember in their supermarkets they had kind of service that you can give a call and ask for the list of things to be delivered to your house - first need products.

Lazy is all I can say. I mean there is usually a small shopping centre quite near to ones neighborhood, when in need of a small item or two.
And to be quite honest this is not going to last very long in SA before all the delivery drivers start striking for a higher salary etc.

This shows how lazy the Americans really are... It seems quite innovative but can you really be that lazy?!

it could help but where is the fun of just pushing a button, i would rather go to the shop, get the stuff i need and wait in a very long Que and have a fit because it takes to long.. but it is fun though because you get out of the house.

This is the height of laziness and obviously will come at an extra cost/expense. Why on earth would you want to order 1 or 2 items and only get it the next day or possibly in 2 days time when you could go to the store and get everything you need. Silly if you ask me, silly and lazy. Might be ok for celebs and ideal for elderly, disabled and the plain lazy people.

it's no wonder americans are so fat.
they don't even get ff their backsides to go shopping.
the technology is impressive, but like doing your grocery shopping online, it's not something i would ever do.

I do not see this working out in SA, not where corruption is so bad and people will find a way to mess it all up. Though if it does come to SA, I hope it does work out

Wow!! How amazing is this. I prefer to go to the shops myself to get out of the house but i think that this will particularly work well with domestic people, retired people and disabled people. They mostly do not have transport should they need anything urgent. I would definitely get one for my Nanny.

Sounds good but won't they charge a delivery fee as well?I agree it wont be profitable to deliver one product at a time.
