I was quite impressed with the additional steps Nedbank has taken in terms of security. They now require all clients to have their fingerprints registered on their system and they also take a photograph of the client at the same time. Your fingerprints are then checked with the Department of Home Affairs. I must say that one has some concerns about banks working together with a government department in that way, but I would rather give up that privacy if it is going to ensure that it is harder for people to defraud one or steal money from one’s account. There is really going to be much less excuses for a teller to pay out the wrong person, when they have your fingerprints on record as well as a photograph of you and I think the other banks will have to adopt this quite quickly because until they do all that will happen is that fraudsters and scammers will try and avoid Nedbank and just target clients of other banks instead.

I don't think one can ever be cautious enough when it comes to bank security. An extra feature like this can only be good.

No security system is ever fool proof. I am sure this security system will be helpful in reducing some fraud, but there are no guarantees especially in banking.

I have been banking with Nedbank for 5 years and very happy to be their client. The monthly fee is actually higher than other bank will charge for maintaining an account, but like David said less people in the branch, oh well I suppose to which branch you will go through!

All other banks must start with this system, I don't bank with Nedbank but had to do a deposit the other day in the bank and I must say they are quite jacked up with there waiting times and customer service.

You don't really hear complains about Nedbank. Capitec is also very good with security

This is a great step in the right direction, however it will be of little help to those who do their banking predominantly online. There is always a risk of fraud with banking, as the security improves, so do the scams.

Thats great but I disagree with David. Nedbank line's are always full. Nedbank Rosebank is a nightmare especially with their new ticket system. But the security feature is great.

This may help with person-to-person banking, but most of the banking fraud today is online. So unless online payments can be verified with a fingerprint and not just a OTP there seems to be little benefit of a fingerprint in the online banking world.

I am very happy with Nedbank and don't think I will change banks. Their services are efficient.

I think this is a very great way of doing banking. Much more safer. This will help the bank's clients avoid being victims of fraud. As far as I know FNB has this system as well.

I use to be with Nedbank and have never had any problems with them. I still believe that they are the best. How does this help if someone clones your card and goes shopping?

I hope biometrics can be used one day to make online banking safer too. Like using your iris to log into your online account.

This is a great idea, I just hope all the other banks jump on board and do the same.

Well Done to Nedbank! I think all their customers will be pleased with this new security feature. I don't think a bank can ever have enough security features but I'm sure this will put all their customers at ease! And I'm sure all those who don't bank with Nedbank will start questioning the security features that their respective banks have in place.

Other banks should definitely start doing this , it actually should have been done a long time ago.

I am with Nedbank and have not had a single day's problems with my accounts. I have been with Std Bank before for a longer time and when I qualified for a cheque account, the lady on the other side decided out of her own accord to transfer money from my savings acc to my new cheque acc without obtaining my permission first. When I received the sms notification, her words to me was "I thought you already gave the instructions" - that's that "thought" that made me decided very quickly to move banks. "If she can transfer monies today, what else can she do tomorrow?" was my question. I'm now with Nedbank for close to 4 years, and am not looking back.

I'm all for more security features when it comes to hard earning money. These days it seems to become easier to hack accounts and steal peoples money without them even knowing. A big thumbs-up to Nedbank.

I am always in full support of additional security features relating to my banking and my money. There is so much bank fraud and I think the banks are in the right to want to be 1 step ahead of the fraudsters with new and improving security features! Nobody is going to complain about the bank wanting to protect their customers.
