Pokemon Go

As everybody by now knows, this is the latest sensation sweeping the world.  I must say I did not find the game particularly stimulating myself, but then I am really not very good at computer games anymore.  I have not played for years until I recently got an X-Box, but sadly I found that game like Halo and Gears of War are impossible for me.  I do like the way people collaborate and play online these days, and I think it is going to lead to more than just games in the future.

Where Pokemon is quite clever is where it requires one to walk around, and uses your geographical location allowing you to find different types of Pokemon.  Cleverly, the application, which is free, encourages you to buy poke balls and so it generates income in that way.

The game is so popular that you will see people walking around in all sorts of areas, and I have even been stopped on a golf course when I was walking with my phone on speaker phone to ask if I have found any Pokemon!  With the frequent services outages due to extreme use of the application using Pokemon on your phone also uses an incredible amount of battery, so much so that portable battery rechargers are selling out in various shops.  By 26 July, the game had been downloaded 75 million times worldwide and from iOS users alone was earning $1,6 million a day in revenue.  Have you played it?  Have you tried it?

Pokémon Go is a free-to-play, location-based augmented reality game. The idea behind the game is quite good actually - get people off their couches, walking and running around to catch virtual creatures. Maybe a little nerdy but quite addictive if you were to take it seriously.

I have not played, I was very curious as to how it works and looks and everything but I do not really have time to play games on my phone or even on a X-box or PlayStation. I think my fear of someone steeling me or robbing me will get the better of me.

This game quickly lost its appeal when all the cheats came out. The whole point of going out a discovering new places and meeting new people was lost when people started cheating.

I have tried it on my cousins phone.and I felt like an idiot walking around with the phone looking for pokemon after 2 minutes I was already board of the game.

I still haven't downloaded Pokemon Go. I love the concept!
I have one friend that was sitting in traffic one day that was apparently was catching pokemon. I laughed so hard when I heard this... He literally left the table the one day to catch pokemon...
People are out here catching feelings while others are catching pokemon!

It sounds interesting because it keeps people walking and active on the other hand if you are going to be addicted to it, then it is a problem because nothing is going to be done except going around and section for pokemon the whole day because you want high score.

I have not tried it and I wont either. It must be interesting, I cant believe so many people downloaded it already. We are clearly in the wrong business I think we must invent a game :)

I was very amazed to see how quickly this game went viral and in the beggining i just could not understand what people were on about regarding the pokemon? I have never tried it and to be honest I am not phased by it. There are more important things to do in life than chase after virtual creatures. I would much rather spend quality time with my physical creatures.

I don't play Pokémon Go, but it looks quite interesting but I don't have the time to attempt playing such games. I think this is more for people under 18 because if you are a adult you should have other responsibilities in life.

It's fascinating to see how far a trend can spread so quickly- the new age of technology! Now imagine it was something for charity or a good cause..

I've heard so much about this game and everyone around us have been playing it. I'm not a big fan of playing games on my phone and I really don't have time for it. I've heard that this game caused so many accidents, people walking off ledges and all sorts of negative things. All in all seems like a waste of time and data.

This is not something I think I would be into, but I know that this game has gained a lot of attention, apparently some time ago when the game was just launched, the Johannesburg Zoo had a special area in the zoo where people could go out and find some sort of exclusive Pokémon.

I have not played it and I will not be playing it either. I'm not a big computer games player hence I have not downloaded any games. If one wants to exercise, just take a walk instead of looking for a destruction in the form of a game.

Its just funny how adults enjoy the game more than the children.
I think we have enough technology around us that we just need a brake and enjoy life.
The world is beautiful why not leave your phone and look around you its much better than a game.

I have heard about Pokémon go and I just think is dumb sorry if Im offending anyone but there is no point to it and it just annoys me seeing people walking with their eyes clued to their phones not even looking up and noticing the world around them &..And the worst of it all is its mostly adults playing it&.
Except for the little exercise you get I dont see the point of wasting my time or battery

I am not into playing games on my phone or computer or even x-box. My sons enjoy their x-box and they get so involved into the games and upset when they are being shot at, or blown up by some sort of bomb, that I have to keep reminding them that it's only a game. Sometimes I have to force them to stop playing games, and to go outside for a while because if I don't, they will be sitting in front of the TV screen the whole day. Personally, I think that any type of game does have its pro's and con's. One just has to manage it properly.

I haven't tried it and probably won't. At least it is getting people outdoors, and it is probably a huge generator of profits for the creators.

I honestly couldn't care less about the game. I'm not into any form of computer games and I don't think I ever will be. Personally I would rather read a book if I simply want to relax with a little bit of me time. I love reading and would rather invest in my mind than a senseless game

Latoya  said:

Not for me at all for sure as this is a load of nonsense I heard lots of stories about this game which has a very negative side to it, People are also apparently leaving their jobs to this this, I also heard someone got knocked off while playing, Very disturbing, Technology is another thing hey.

Have not downloaded it and not interested in downloading it either. My boyfriend is constantly asking me to drive so he can catch pokemons/poke balls. I really don't see the fuss and it gets pretty annoying if someone is driving and playing - they tend to drive slower so it seems like they are walking to catch the pokemon they need. It doesn't entertain me.

I have not tried it, but I do like the idea of a game getting people outside and walking. Most of my friends are playing Pokémon and they love it! I heard on the radio the other day, that a whole bunch of different people from different groups and areas came together at the Voortrekker Monument to look for Pokémon together - this must be an awesome social event and I will probably download it, just to be part of that!

Nina  said:

Alexis  said:

I have been shown how to play this game. I do not understand the concept of it though. It is still an antisocial game where you will never meet a person you battle. This world has become so - I cannot even think of the word. And in the end we are all hermits. Gone are the days where kids just kicked a soccer ball around or played outside in the garen.

Daniella  said:

My sister is often wondering up and down the streets playing this game but I have not downloaded it or even tried to play it on her phone. One plus though is it is encouraging people to be active and not be lazy, very well thought of if you ask me. Getting on the move while being distracted can only mean that you're being active and not really monitoring meters walked/ran, you're exercising without even knowing it. Winning.

I am not even going to try this game as it is probably addictive. A couple of my friends have confessed their addictions already. I am more for enjoying moments of life and I am not the biggest fan of technology and I am not sure whether walking around outside trying to find a Pokemon furfills the same purpose of just enjoying being outside

Sarah  said:

Lots of my friends play it and I have even try it. Signal is a big problem cause it using your GPS on your phone. I agree with Zindy don't play the game well driving, however it is very entertaining

Zindy  said:

I have not tried it myself, however heard how entertaining it can be but also heard that it has attracted controversy for contributing to accidents and becoming a public nuisance at some locations. I guess people should just be careful when playing the game. To remember not to play while driving as it could be distracting and not worth losing your life over.

I love the game. Gets people off their bums and moving. True the game eats battery, also some places have terrible signal. But its very innovative i think. I saw young people even walking at the zoo looking for pokemon... ok there are real animals but at least they are outside
