The most popular running shoe, amongst runners is ...
My Nike shoes are fairly worn out, so I have decided that I need to go and get some new running shoes. I struggled quite a bit with my right Achilles tendon as well as with shin splints and so I am planning to go to a running shop that has actual runners in their staff to assess what shoes I should buy. I did a little bit of research and came across an article in the November 2016 edition of Fortune magazine which did a survey of runners who actually run marathons and I was surprised to discover that Nike ranks only fourth in popularity amongst those who would know better than most people as to what is a good running shoe.
Nike in fact only has 9% of the runners market and is currently being comfortably beaten by Brooks, which is a leading running shoe amongst runners, followed by Saucony and then Asics. I am a big fan of the wisdom of crowds, and while we don’t always get it right, it is the guys who are currently running 42.2km on weekends who will know best, and they are choosing three brands ahead of Nike. I will certainly make sure I choose between those three brands.

When it comes to running shoes, i have always been fairly picky of the type of shoes i wear. Not that I am an avid runner, but I do participate in actions sports and I find that if you wear the wrong trainers, you could find yourself in some pain after a good run. Again, the best top of the range running shoes do come with a price, but at the end of the day, it is worth it.

I think Nike is just about the name. i remember for netbal the best was new balance. nike and adidas got worn out 10 times faster. Even Asics which i agree are great for running but not for netbal courts. Once again showing that you need to update your product to suit each sport and research and develop around that

I have to be honest all my running shoes are Adidas I much prefer it over other brands. Price not terrible and very comfortable for training.

What about going back to our primitive, caveman roots and running barefoot? I have read that this will improve your foot strength, flexibility, sensitivity and skill.

The right running shoe is very important cause you can get very bad injuries from running with the wrong shoe. So good luck shopping

My father and I also recently had a conversation about running shoes and being a comrades and marathon runner he also told me how important the right running shoe is and how the wrong shoe could cause injuries, as also happened with him a few years ago. Good luck with the shoe shopping!

I am no runner, but if I had to choose, I would also go with what is rated the best by the people who run, as you said, 42.2km on a weekend. I know Nike and Asics, but have never heard of Brooks nor Saucony.

I have never heard of Saucony and Brooks but would rather rely on what marathon runners regard as their running shoe of choice, as non-marathon runners tend to choose the best looking shoe instead of the shoe that is best for running long distances.

I choose Nike as it actually the only one I have ever worn, haven't tried any other brands yet and they are so comfy. But I will definitely try some of the other brands.

I have never heard of Brooks, Saucony or Asics, but probably because I am not a big runner myself. I love my Adidas and Nikes for the occasional walks and exercises. If I could I would even wear them to work and court! It is however imperative that you wear the right shoes for the right occasion, purely to prevent injuries. Therefore if you have to pay a bit more to ensure that you won't cause yourself an injury now or in the long term, then so be it.

Oh fancy that, ha ha ha ha ha this goes to show what advertising can actually do. I mean Nike is based on running people always has been. Now you see they actually just not as good as their advert perceives them to be.

I’m not a runner, but I must say I prefer Nike for training. I never heard of Brooks or one of the other brands. You won’t make a mistake to go with the crowd on this one, I’m sure they have tried everything.

To be honest I have never even heard of these other brands. I always just think Nike or Adidas when I think of sports clothing/shoes. Perhaps they advertise better than these other brands.

Nike haven't been the leaders in running shoes for a while now. I do believe that it is all up to the runner, what's comfortable, what is the right fit for your foot and also how it looks plays an important role when choosing the perfect pair.

I think as long as your shoes are comfortable for you, it doesn`t matter what brand it is. But I sure do like the Nike they have these days, it is so pretty. Especially the Nike`s for babies.

I know Nike shops have a treadmill and they can tell you what running shoe you are best suited for by looking at the way you run on the treadmill. I love Nike, I don't think I would change my running shoes.

It's very important to have the correct gear when training. This article is quite informative as most people, and I speak for myself as well, think Nike when looking at training shoes. Prevention is better than cure and if your gear can assist in avoiding sports injuries or even assist in not aggravating existing injuries, you come to realize that it's actually a very important decision to make

I always thought Nike and Adidas were the popular brands for running shoes. I have not heard of the others before. I guess the best running shoes will be recommend by the experts although I must say that every person is different and find that some brands are just better for them than the best brand recommend.

If one is an avid runner, then the best thing to do is go to a podiatrist and get their opinion on what kinds of shoes you should use. From there one can then go to the best brand that will accommodate what the dr has suggested. It is important to make sure you run in the right shoes as this will go a long way to making your run a more comfortable, pleasant experience.

I have often heard amongst runners (not being one myself) that Asics is the brand they opt for when looking for the best running shoe. There is surely something to it. Nike has always struck me as more of an athletic quick, short distance shoe or shoes for fast-paced sports such as Basketball and the like.
I have not heard of Brooks or Saucony, but if they rank above Asics they must be in the same league, if not better.

My running shoes has lasted a fair amount of time for all the running I did, but its also time for a new pair of running shoes and I have not really made my mind up about which brand I would like, I will probably have to do some more research.

I am not a runner at all and don't even own a pair of running shoes, so cannot really say much on this subject. However I do agree with Angelique that Nike is more for the younger generation if anything.

I have never heard of Brooks but I suppose if you are an avid runner you would know the brand, in terms of purchasing running shoes, I always tend to look at Nike and no other brands for some reason. I'm sure that it must be quite disappointing for Nike to have people preferring at least three other brands above theirs, they may need to change something drastic. I do however believe that some people, like me will always go with the most well-known and most established brand, Nike will always have my vote.

I agree that the guys running long distances on a regular basis will definitely know best. I must say Nike shoes always look great and I think a lot of people care more about the look than anything else. It is just the serious athletes that will focus on the way the shoe fits and if it is comfortable for long distances and does not cause shin splints or knee problems.

I think Nike has become more of a fashion trending kind of brand amongst the youngsters. I like Nike's service where you can go in and they recommend a running shoe and you actually run on the treadmill. I also like that they have a running club right here in Rosebank after work where they run around Rosebank. I think the brand did a great job "re-inventing" themselves so it's quite surprising that they aren't number 1. Like I said, it is probably more popular with the younger generations and perhaps they need to focus more on their running shoe's line to increase sales.

I actually also need to go shopping for a running shoe but for now I still want a Nike shoe. I'm not a 42.2km runner so Nike is the best for me right now. The Nike in Rosebank actually has treadmills and trainer to test how you run and from there they will tell you which shoe is best for you - I've been needing to go. Maybe when I'm more serious about running, I'll get a better running brand...
