The Players Championship takes place this weekend in Ponte Vedra Beach. The closest major city, right on top of it, is Jacksonville. It is on the north-east coast of Florida, it is right on the ocean, and in golfing terms it is considered the 5th biggest tournament of the year.
From an amateur point of view – and now I am talking about myself and other golfing fans who struggle with the game – it is probably the toughest course you can get. I think that the only course I have played that is comparable to it is Carnoustie. By way of example, on that particular trip, I shot a 75 at Kings Barnes, but I would still rate my 81 at Carnoustie amongst some of the best golf I have ever played in my life, because it is a far more difficult course. Some courses suit those players who can just hit it far, even if wildly, but this is one of those courses that really makes you have to plot, very carefully, where you are going to put the ball. It requires thinking on almost every shot and is far more difficult than most of the courses I have played in South Africa. I think anybody who wins it would invariably be a great shot-maker – somebody who is really very good with their irons.

I must say, it truly sounds like a beautiful place to swing a golf club, whether for fun or professionally. It really just takes A LOT of patience. If you don't have that then you will always feel like you are failing.

I don't know much about golf but some of the men in my family can watch for hours. Me on the other hand find it a bit boring. I think it's a very difficult thing to master and as I have previously stated I went to the driving range with my husband some time back and I just couldn't get it right.

There is no doubt that golfing requires skill and plenty of hours of training. I am sure that most golfers find playing on this course challenging and exciting and I’m sure it is something that they look forward to!

Having some difficulty on the course it worth it, you improve on your skills. but practice makes perfect they say, im sure the pro golfers will put up a good show. and as always i am rooting for the underdog. SA had good golf but remember we are still a 3rd world country(well now junk) but we have some awesome players that do us proud

I am very interested to see what this course looks like and will definitely be asking Niel if he has ever played here and how it went. I do agree that different courses need different skill sets.

I never had a chance playing golf, I really hope one day I will challenge new game. Reading blogs I would say golf it is not about only hitting the ball it does need calculations and logic and probably the player must be very good with measuring distance as well. Good game comes with practice and exercise.

Golf requires excellent eye-hand coordination, intense focus and a desire to compete. The combination of all these things as well as the level of difficulty of the course will make it , I'm sure, a challenging but at the same time very rewarding tournament to play.

The most important shot in golf is the next one! You might consider yourself an amateur but what does that make the rest of us :-D Golf requires patience and strategy .

I do not know a lot about golf but it really is a talent to be able to play the game well. I know of a lot of golfers that struggle terribly to make a success of the game/sport but still continue to try and improve their game. Given the difficulty of this course, I would assume if you're going to watch, you are sure in for watching some serious pro's of the game.

I think golf is a smart, clean, tidy and descent sport played by smart descent people, played at smart courses that are situated at descent places. It sounds like when you are in golf sport you travel a lot to descent places. An amateur turns to be a future Champion.

Golf is not my forte, however this tournament is said to offer the highest prize money - $10 million in 2015. This would explain the difficulty level of the course and the skill set required to be victorious!

To be good in something all the time is boring. Sometimes a challenge is good. I do think that golf are a very difficult game to play. When I think of golf I think of people with etiquette and people with lots of patience.

Golf is about timing, focus and confidence. It is a sport that takes time to work out a strategy and learn how to play the game. You see so many golfers these days and it can be for business purposes or just leisure and certain golf courses are preferred to other golf courses due to the amazing views or just because the courses has a little more of a challenge than other courses.

Golf is a beautiful game, it is not about only hitting the ball it is about thinking each shot through. Sometimes hitting far is not always as important as strategically placing the ball. I love walking the course with people who have a passion for the game, albeit as amateurs, one can learn a lot from their passion.

I think it must be amazing to be a pro golfer. They travel the word and see the most beautiful places. I know you get very difficult golf courses that can get really challenging but what fun will it be if it’s easy?

I can just imagine how good you need to be at Golf to win one of these Tournaments. I wonder if golfers ever get to practice on these courses before the tournament just so that they can have some sort of strategy before they start playing.

Do not know much about golf as stated before, have tried it once or twice and it is fun to go hit some balls at the driving range. I can imagine that golf needs that skill and accuracy, and what you are saying about the course....whomever does manage to win it, would have to be quite a shot.....
