It seems that most people these days accept that global warming is real – and certainly the scientists are unanimous about that. It is interesting though that it hasn’t started to impact yet on property prices or the stock market.
If you think about it, at some point obviously certain areas will be much more uninhabitable than before, and when everybody in that area realises that, nobody will buy there anymore – at least not unless they are given a steep discount.
We are looking at a lot of areas becoming much hotter than they currently are, and in addition to that, the level of sea water is rising around the world. Think about that in practical terms – the house on the beachfront in Umhlanga Rocks or your cottage at Clifton. I know none of us can afford one, but just think about those properties. If the sea levels do really rise, as much as scientists are saying they will, at some point some of the houses will be flooded. At the very least, and if nothing else, certain beaches will disappear. Assuming you have the money you will not be quite as excited to buy at Clifton when the beach no longer exists and the water is lapping over it up against the base of the houses. The scary thing is that most of these predictions are not based on what is going to happen in 200 or 300 years’ time, but rather in the next 30 to 50 years – so they are talking about things that will be happening in our lifetime. I must just emphasise that I have given Clifton as an example – I am not saying there is a report that says that Clifton is going to lose its beach in 30 to 50 years, but obviously as sea levels rise around the world and if that continues to happen, it is guaranteed at some point that that beach will no longer exist.

I was looking to go to the coast, then this Cape Town and Knysna thing happened. Shame I also believe that the price of houses are insane and way too high priced.

Global warming is happening and we can see just by how South Africa is experiencing things they never experienced before. Tornado's for instance. I try teach my children about global warming and how they can help the environment so that they can also do what they can and even approach other kids at school about it. Obviously we not perfect but I believe that if everyone tries to help out in some sort of way we can make a difference.

Global warming is real and serious problem today.I would not even consider purchasing property next to the sea.I will rather stay in the city then on the beach.

One should also consider areas which are already considered "hot" and, the fact, that these areas are even hotter. These areas would literally become uninhabitable.
Let us consider Venice, Italy - A multibillion-dollar effort to install flood-protection walls that can be raised to block incoming tides is nearing completion. These barriers were designed to protect the city from tides that are coming in higher as overall sea levels are rising in response to climate change.
And, yet, America has a President who has called "global warming a 'hoax'."

I used to hear people talking about global warming and global warming awareness etc., but I feel more scared of global warming, when hearing about the level of sea water rising around the world.

Global warming is certainly a reality, and I must admit that it never crossed my mind that property prices in certain areas will decrease, but it makes sense. This article makes for an interesting read and definitely makes you think of what will happen in the "near" future.

Global warming is something everyone is aware of and talking about everyday, but I am sure they are also trying to find ways to reduce global warming, with all the latest technology I am sure they will be able to reduce and maybe even reverse global warming soon.

This is very concerning and scary. Global warming is not just a distant concept anymore it is very really and people normally don’t realize this until it is too late. Luckily I don’t own a cottage at Clifton :) ?

The million dollar question, has Donald Trump finally admitted that global warming does exist! With the help of the first world countries, and the changing of our ways, perhaps we can stall global warning for a lot longer......... I worry about what we are doing to change this, i cannot worry about the beach house i don't have but, for the sake of others, we all need to do our part to slow it down.

Global warming is here and there are lots of changes happening every year all over the world! I would not even consider purchasing property next to the sea. With so many weather conditions and changes in the atmosphere there will be no guarantee that the beach front is the save place to leave!

Global warming is going to have a far bigger impact then we would like to believe. I haven't even thought about the fact that property prices in certain areas would decrease as a result of no one wanting to stay there anymore. It would be an interesting point to take note of and keep track of over the years.

Global warming is a very real and serious problem today, it is ridiculous that some people and more specifically - The leader of the free world still denies the seriousness thereof. Drastic measures need to be taken soon in order for us to have something worth leaving for generations to come.

When it comes to global warming I think everyone is fully aware of it and the implications of it but refuse to accept that the consequences will be felt soon. I believe that many of us take the attitude that if we don't acknowledge the problem then we don't have to deal with the consequences.

I have to agree, I don't think people take global warming seriously and I don't even think people consider this when they buy a house at the beach. I think it is something to be consider if you decide to buy a beach house. I think people will only take this seriously when it is to late.

I remember growing up that global warming was a distant thought and people didn't take it as serious as they do today. Its such a scary thought. We need to accept that what we do to mother earth will affect the generations to come.

Luckily for me I don't have a Clifton Bungalow :) but I completely understand - We need to stop living selfishly and not thinking about the next few years and how the next generations are going to live. Truth is that not enough people care about global warming - it doesn't sound real enough for them to care.

This is a scary thought and it does make you think twice of where to buy. I probably won't be buying a house in the next few years as I am comfortable with renting and not being too restricted on moving somewhere better or safer.

It is extremely scary, When i was in school we were all taught about global warming and what could happen to the Earth if we carry on the way we do. But that didn't change anyone's behavior. People assume that because its just them doing it so its not going to make a difference. But start somewhere recycle, walk/ cycle to the shops that is just down the road. try a little harder and we will see a difference.

I have recently watched a shocking documentary by Leonardo Di Caprio " Before the flood" ,i strongly recommend all of you watch it.
People are talking about global warming but majority of politicians have no agenda or any intention to change regulations and enforce laws to reduce or stop carbon emissions.
Mother Earth is getting chocked on smog because of the universal human greed for money and power.

As far as I understand it, at some point, I cannot remember which island - think it may be the Maldives - will no longer exist because the water rising. It is not a really pleasant thing to think about it, and it seems the damage is done. The earth however heals itself....the problem is the people and all the nonsense we use on a daily basis, it does not give her a chance.

Global warming is seriously something to worry about. And we don't realise this every day, where we are supposed to as we need to take more care of Mother Nature. Global warming has more than just one negative affect on the human race. Even if this awful things were only going to happen in 200 or 300 years, we still need to take care of the way we live as we will be leaving this place for people in the future as well. Sure like the topic of this Blog as we need to make more people aware of the Global warming reality.

Every time I hear something about Global Warming is more serious. It's really scary. It's only people that cause Global warming and people are not interested in this serious matter they just want to make money and don't care about the rest.

This is something that I have thought about and it really is a reality, I don't know if property owners that do have property in possible, "danger areas" have thought about it. Perhaps this is something that home buyers will certainly have to consider when shopping around but I don't believe that at the time that properties were bought in regions that may be effect, that the buyers considered this. This is also an extremely sad reality that we will one day have no beaches at all, only humanity can be blamed though.

I have also thought about this before but then I wonder has anyone measured the distance between the sea water, say at low tide, and the promenade for example of any beach to see if the beach is in fact getting shorter because when I go to Durban the beach looks exactly the same size and I learnt about global warming 20 years ago in school.

This is something that is really serious. While a beach house does sound like a dream come true, is it really worth it to spend your retirement money on something that may be lost? Global warming is a serious thing, and it will catch up to us eventually, and yes I also believe that it will happen in our lifetime.

Scary taught I must say. Sea levels have risen about 7 inches in the in the last 100 years, which is more than the previous 2000 years combined. The rising sea levels due to global warming could threaten the lives of people living along the coastal areas indeed.
