Features you would like to see on Apps on your phone
I would be interested to hear what features you would like to see on some of the apps that you use. The one feature I really want does exist, but only on jailbroken iPhones. That is not something that appeals to me, although it is probably not that dangerous for your phone – if anybody knows they can certainly let me know! The feature I would like would be on WhatsApp.
I often have some of my best thoughts late at night and I like to send voice notes to staff members, friends and advocates that I work with. I would love a feature that allows a delayed transmission of those notes so that they go out as the working day starts at 8.00/8.30am. Unfortunately, that is not available on the usual version of WhatsApp, but there are a number of message delay apps that are available on jail broken phones and I really cannot understand why they don’t implement that feature for normal iPhones. It would also be another great way to set yourself reminders or to remember to wish somebody something on a certain day, etc.

All apps are wonderful until a new and better version of it comes out! I really enjoy some of the banking apps. It really makes things so convenient and can really help out if you are having a crisis or emergency! I must be honest and I may just be paranoid but I do sometimes worry about the safety of having all your banking on your phone.

I'm not really an app person, I stick to the basic apps. I think you need to go play around on the app store to find some interesting apps

I actually watched a movie this weekend where they spoke about an app that should have retina scanning for when you want to drunk dial someone. Before placing the call, the app would scan your eyes to see if you are in a sober state. I thought that that was pretty clever.
If I think about it, there is nothing I would need in app form right now but when something new is invented I'll probably kick myself and say "I should've thought of that"

I'm quite happy with the apps we have now. For me any messaging app is great. I'm not a technology person. As long a I can message, make and receive calls, I'm happy.

With so many new apps developed each day, its hard to keep up. An app I really enjoy is called True caller. It identifies unknown calls and blocks spam calls. So you never have to take another call from someone trying to sell you the unwanted.

I agree with the feature to delay the message and be send at a time of your choice, I would also like an feature where you can delete a message after sending it and before the other person has read the message. Sometime I send a message impulsively or to the wrong person and I am unable to undo it. Even if I delete it on my side the other person will still get the message.

Being a paranoid mother-I'd like an app that could track and trace people's whereabouts-especially for my children-that way I'd always know where they are and I'd have more peace of mind about their safety. It would also be great for when they're teenagers-that way I can secretly stalk them ;)

Work with what you have....people have become so reliable on their devices, it is not healthy. Have a calender you check on a daily basis to remind yourself of things, if there are things taht pop into your head late at night, have a notepad or something next to your desk and wrote it down before you automatically send same....decisions and thoughts of certain things change as you think it about it

There are so many apps available and it's quite interesting to listen as people talk about the this or that new app they discovered and love and everything is does. I'm very bad in trying new things and will normally just follow recommendations if it is something that I think I might use or need, otherwise I just couldn't be bothered with it

I think I would like an App that reads your messages and whatsapp while in traffic. This would mean that you don't have to read the urgent messages and put your life in danger but rather an app reading them for you.

I agree with Clare a kid friendly feature would be great :) Although my little girl has her 'own' phones which she plays with, there is something about mine that is always more interesting. I know this blog is about features we would like to see on apps but one thing I would be happy about is not having pop ups on these apps! Drives a person insane and I just land up deleting it.

There are so many apps and not just one to choose from but sometime even 20 of the same but different people invented them. I think if you search hard enough you will probably finds what you're looking for. Technology is amazing these days just think how it's going to be in a few years time.

For a female driving in Johannesburg it is always stressful. I know crime is part and parcel of living in South Africa, however,I would like Waze to introduce a crime hotspot alert similar to their pothole warnings or construction alerts. Often smash and grabbers or hi-jackers target a specific area over a certain time period. If people report their incidents like they do for police on the roads then the other Wazers will know to be extra vigilant.

Reading through some of the comments, is quite interesting, Mathilda, there is an app like the one you want for plants, it's a "shazam" for plants. In terms of the delaying of whatsapps, I have to agree with that one. I would need to research more before I put fingers to keyboards before I decide on an app I want because, I am not sure whether there are apps for this already - technologically challenged remember :-)

I can't think of any specific feature that I would like, but being able to delay WhatsApp messages does sound like a good idea.

I would like an App where you can take a photo of a plant or Animal you’re not familiar with ,this App will then tell you what type it is and also information about it for example with a plant if its poisonous or whatever
Also if for example you take a photo of food it will tell you the amount of calories and what health benefits it has-( and not the one you have to first scan the barcode)

I can’t really think of a certain app that I will like. But if I could choose, it should definitely be an app that must benefit my life on a positive note. Something that must help me achieves good in life and to make me a better person. Actually these days there are almost an app or everything.

I really don't think there isn't an app for anything one is looking for - including some of the comments below. Nor are there features that I can actually think of that I would like. However, I do not like the fact that you have to buy music on Apple, however, I figured a way out around that. I think if I had an app or a feature maybe I would be richer as it is pretty much an invention if you think about it.

I feel like an app where you can smell scents of perfumes that you are interested in purchasing. I have no clue how it would come about, as it seems almost impossible! But i think that would be pretty cool.

I should probably have an app that will block my credit card if I go over budget! But one I would like to have is an app where your meal plans for the week can be set out for you and personalized according to whatever intolerances or specific needs you may have, and then be able to order that meal through the app and have it delivered to wherever you may specify.

I must say I like the app they you can have on your Phone that you log into so that your kids can play on your Phone and they cant go on to things without my permission however I think an App that can allow the Kids to watch the Kids YouTube Clips only will be nice.

I am not very technologically savvy - and perhaps it is quite embarrassing at my age - but an app that I use a lot would be Facebook - when friends tag you in horrific posts it can really hurt your image especiaaly when potential employers check to see your 'digital footprint'. In saying that, Facebook should introduce a feature that requires your permission before someone can tag you anything.

How's about an app that downloads your data from Facebook with regards to birthdays and sets an automatic reminder on your phone without having to log into Facebook. I often miss birthdays because I haven't been on Facebook on a particular day. I make regular use of Toshl finance which is an app which you input your monthly earnings and expenses and every month your budget is there and easy accessible.
