I would love to know what you think is the best holiday you have gone on or what type of holiday you prefer to go on the most. I have some staff members who have travelled to far more countries of the world than I have and I have done all sorts of holidays ranging from cheap holidays to very expensive holidays. In fact, one or two years into my law practice I booked a tent in Kruger Park that could sleep 4 people and if I remember correctly the cost was R100 a night – probably the equivalent of about R400 a night now, or maybe less than that, and as the holiday got close I realised I could not afford it.
I spoke to my girlfriend and she arranged her sister and her boyfriend to come with us on the trip so as to cut our cost down to R50! I can honestly say that the over 100+ nights I spent in Kruger Park are some of the best and most relaxing times of my life and I have always loved Kruger although I dread the drive home.
Anybody who has children will tell you that it is very hard to beat any destination that either has a swimming pool with lots of other kids in it or the beach – and the great thing about the beach is that beach holidays are generally pretty cheap unless of course you are choosing some fancy beach in Cape Town, which is pretty pointless with kids anyway, because they cannot swim in that freezing water! I also loved holidays that I took with my family when I was about 10 to 13 years old where we used to go to the mountains quite often. There is something about the mountains, the thinner air, etc that I love, and recently I went on a skiing holiday for the first time in my life. I touched snow for the first time in my life probably only about 4 years ago and to have a white Christmas was tremendously exciting for me and my children.
It is amazing for me that I first got to touch snow when I was approximately 43 or 44 years old and yet my kids have done it at the age of 6. At the end of the day, I think that travel, relatively speaking, has actually gotten cheaper over the years in terms of air flights, etc, and I came from a very middleclass family where there were times for example we could not afford to eat meat and had vegetarian meals only for about three months. It is not something I am embarrassed about at all – I think coming from less has always made me work harder than those who come from more. There is also a saying, which is quite true as well in my opinion, that money cannot buy class and likewise, you don’t need to have money to have class.

The best holiday I have been on is when we went to China, I think this was due to the fact that we had somebody in China who took us to all kinds of different places, this really makes a big difference. You experience more things you would of if you had ventured off and planned everything on your own.

When I was younger, we went to many places across the country as a family. We would go away almost once a month. Even if it was just for a weekend. Memories I will cherish forever!
My favourite was always Sun City because my sister and I would play that Spider Stomping game at the magic company. So lame! =''D
We once went to Swaziland which was different and if I remember correctly, it was quite cold. Mozambique was also amazing!
Unfortunately I have not traveled abroad yet but my time will come.... At least I do have a few stamps in my passport =)
There is no place like home though. Which is why I love that my parents bought property in Knysna. It's a home away from home.

My favorite holiday was definitely my trip to Thailand with the family. I loved exploring the culture. We do a lot of scuba diving and Thailand still looks untouched underwater so very beautiful to see. Put me anywhere near water and sun and I am happy.

My best holiday would be going to the sea with my family and just being so relaxed, feeling the sand between your toes

I agree, time spend with family and friends and inexpensive holidays tends to be the best holidays. My first time to Durban with a friend of mine and her family was one of the best holidays.... we still talk about the fun we had, funny stuff that happened, drinks that we drinked. It was also my first time on a boat out on the sea. Rubber duck (Inflatable boat) on top of it... but again it was memorable because of the company we had. My other favorite holiday was Cape Town with the in-laws. There is just so much to do in Cape Town, if you going to Cape Town you simply must go on Table mountain and Cape Point if you have not done this before.

Well, I have to say that I have only been down to Cape Town last year for the first time in my life and it was an experience and a half. We had so much to do, from wine routes to taking a tour on the red bus going to cape point, seeing penguins, going abseiling and just so much more. I even went to Kosi Bay which was so amazing as we went snorkelling. Now its time to explore and this is why I did my passport recently... Let the adventure begin.

I love Mozambique. It's so beautiful there, I like the weather and the warm ocean and it’s not too far away. There’s no signal so it’s amazing to take a good brake and rest well.

It’s very interesting to see where everyone has travelled to before. I think people who visit other countries are very privileged. My dad`s side of the family are situated in Australia. I must say I do not enjoy visiting Australia, but to rather spend time with my family. My best holidays sometime are just to stay home and to relax in my own way and to visit people I don't always see that regularly.

The best holiday definitely revolves around who you spend it with. My favourite holiday was spent backpacking through Thailand, exploring and trying all sorts of new and interesting food.

When I was still in school and for my first two years of varsity we would always go down to the Drakensburg for the mid-year holidays. I remember not enjoying it much when I was younger because there wasn’t much to do! But as I got older I enjoyed the long walks and just appreciating nature and the quiet time away from the busy city life that we are so custom to! One of the countries I would like to go to is France just to explore and definitely for the shopping and all the amazing restaurants I see on the travel channel!

It was honestly the most beautiful holiday I have been on. Although I have been overseas when I was around 3 Years old but I was too young to remember.

Ah my favourite type of holiday is a beach holiday - the kind you just relax and "beach". I would go down to Cape Town every year and I must say you end up spending just as much as if you would if you went to overseas. Pity I didn't do that instead. One of my favourites in Cape Town were not the wild party days but when I went down and was actually a tourist and relaxed. I also really enjoyed the cruise ship to the Portuguese islands - It was mainly fun because of the company! I don't however particularly enjoy being on a ship for a long period of time. Nor do I enjoy nature type holidays - maybe for Winter. I also really enjoyed my family trip to New-Zealand, again just because my entire family spent it together! I would love to travel to Greece though - island hopping and beach - yes please!

I will choose a beach holiday over a bush holiday. My favorite holiday so far was a Contiki tour through Europe for my 21st, it was the absolute best present ever. I’ve also been to a few African countries and my favorite so far was Malawi.

I haven't travelled much but my favourite holiday destination was a Portuguese island cruise for my honeymoon, mainly because it was good value for the money spent-the only additional expense we had was drinks and there was a variety of entertainment. What I also enjoyed was being out on the sea-it was such a different experience-the complete darkness at night and just being surrounded by water and also beautiful sunsets in the morning; I even enjoyed being on the ship when the sea was rough-just because it was new experience. Although I enjoyed the cruise- my best memories from holidays are more about the jokes; fun and crazy times I had with friends and family than the actual destination.
I also joke that the first time I was on a plane was in my twenties whereas the first time my daughter flew was at 2years old.

I have only traveled as far as Cape Town and haven't yet had the opportunity to travel overseas. My absolute favour holiday destination is without a doubt, Cape Town. There is just so much scenery and land to actually see, some many wine farms to see and a lot of shopping that can be done! I'm not an outdoors kind of person and I prefer to always stay in a hotel, I don't do camping and am quite happy if my holiday consists of shopping 24/7.

The best holiday I had was in Hawaii. My father and I went away for a week to celebrate my 21st Birthday. Our trip happened to fall over New Years so counting down to the New Year with my Dad on Waikiki Beach was really something special for me. I think its more the company that you are with than the location that makes a holiday epic.

Best holiday destination for me was Knysna...such a beautiful spot and beautiful little places around there to explore. However I am more of a wanting to relax and take it easy type of person. Another destination i did enjoy was Pongolo, bit of a drive, but worth it.
One day, it will to be taking a month off, if able, and travelling the country, exploring every nook and cranny and enjoying what South Africa has to offer. We have a beautiful country and would rather do that first before I go to other places...

The best holidays - no matter where- are with family! I must say that my favourite holiday to date was my honeymoon. Spending time with friends and family really make holdays so much more fun. I agree with the fact that you can get cheap holidays these days you just have to know where to look. I think camping would be the most affordable but then again camping isn't for everyone.

The absolute best holidays I've had are those with my family in Greece in the summer, road tripping to visit family and friends and lazing about on the beaches on the islands of Zakynthos and Hydra.

I love going to the Sea its so refreshing and relaxing to see the wide open ocean it feels like I can touch a little bit of heaven. Sitting near the sea side is my best holiday. Sleeping late, not worried about messing house and just doing what ever I like.

I recently travelled to Prague and it has been the most amazing holiday to date! It has been dubbed the cheapest place in Europe to visit because it does not make use of the Euro - I would reccomend it to any young traveller! I have travelled exstensively abraod but not travelled my country much - which is sad but it often costs just the same to go on an overseas trip than it does to travel within SA!

It is not the most expensive holidays that you enjoy but the ones you get to spend with your family and friends that makes it more fun. And that is not something you can put a price on it. Best holiday was locally (quite affordable at the time) with a few school friends in Durban, not really the plays but all the activities that we did together :-)

the very best holidays i have ever had have been bike trips. before we had my daughter my wife and i did quite a few. definitely the highlight of my life. Dirt roads through the middle of nowhere, picnics on the side of the road, and staying over in small obscure towns, and braais every night.
