I just want to know what applications you find the best to plot your way around the traffic we have. Traffic is not as bad as in some cities in the world – another thing we cannot really complain too much about in South Africa – other than the route from JHB to Fourways along William Nicol! I have used Google Maps on some devices, but I find that it works well in some cities and not well in other cities.
I used to have TomTom which manufactures, what I think are bad GPS units, but has excellent software in terms of avoiding traffic. To me, probably the best, but in some ways inconvenient, because I have to use it on my phone, is Waze. I think Waze is the best that I found for traffic and I have learned to trust Waze, just as I did with TomTom. I have a touch screen in my car, it is set permanently on Google Maps and I have no choice about using anything else and so most of the inconvenience comes in the actual positioning of my phone. So the problem for me with Waze is I have to get all sorts of devices – the latest one being a strong magnet that clips onto the fan grills of your air conditioning unit in your car and then your phone attaches to the magnet.

Google maps for the win. Additionally the lady who voices the directions sounds quite pleasing.

With no doubt, I will say that the Waze is the best application on any device, I have never lost with Waze. But if there is traffic and sometimes the traffic can be everywhere, does not really matter what road planning to take, just helicopter can help!

I only use the google maps application that's standard on our phones and tablets for directions. As long as I reach my destination, I'm happy.

I use Google maps every time I get lost or whatsoever, I don't intend to use something more experienced or better because at the end of the day you are going to reach your destination some or other way.

I have basically only used google maps. I have however heard a lot about this Waze program and how accurate it is. Might just give it a try.

I usually use Google Maps and still get lost(due to my lack of sense of direction and not knowing left from right) but I do still find it useful. I've tried Waze to avoid traffic in the mornings but have found that even though I avoid traffic I still end up at my destination at the same time as I would have if I just stayed in the traffic because of all the back routes it recommends. .

I fortunately never get stuck in traffic on the way to work just because of how close it is. When travelling to a place I have not been before I tend to use Google Maps because I find it more convenient. I have downloaded Waze though, and will definitely make use of it, as I have heard only good things about the app.

I only use my phone when needed. I will definitely download Waze to see how it works. I don't really get traffic but if I do it's always nice to see why.

My personal opinion is that a gps is a great invention , and that google maps I have used before , but I've never used Waze in my life. But you can't avoid traffic in Johannesburg, and if you do you are lucky.

It feels like I've tried every single GPS devise there is and all of them have good and bad to them. Waze is the best for me at this stage. I feel like it helps you avoid the major build ups although I got lost once and it can make your route so much longer. Sometimes it’s better to just sit in traffic and ride it out.

I think according to the blog and comments, Waze is the best even if it has some inconveniences but still helps in beating traffic.

I only use Waze. To me it is the best mapping system with live traffic updates and detours. I also have an issue with where to put your phone when Waze is on but now I have learnt to put the volume up and listen to the instructions instead of looking at the map.

Waze has really helped me out in a lot of situations. It's especially the best way to predict and avoid traffic as far as you can.

I use Google Maps on my phone, I trust Google Maps more the my Tom Tom that I had I use to get lost with the Tom Tom but not once with my Google Maps. Waze sounds like a interesting app will definitely try it and see how it works. The Magnet actually looks like it can really work

Waze has certainly shown me some shortcuts which I now know by heart and use on a daily basis- I would never have discovered them without Waze. At times though, there is only so much that even Waze can assist with when it comes to my commute through Fourways and down William Nicol! I see that Google Maps has really updated its technology since the inception of Waze and I now alternate between the two depending on my destination.

I use google maps all to time. It’s just so much easier to access on my phone and to update regularly as well. We also have a Garmin GPS, but I stay far away from it as possible. The touch screen of the device is just way to slow for me so I get frustrated very easily. My phone has never let me down before. (touch wood)

So I am very bad at road names and Directions if you need me to give you Directions I will send you to Durban or Cape Town or even to them dark lonely roads that have no end... I need a GPS or Google maps all the time.. unless I know the road well but still, don't ask me what road I drive cause I still cant tell you what high I get on. I do often use Google maps the most and I haven't had any problems.

Waze is really the best app ever! the only problem is that Waze gets its information from their users. So if you are in traffic, or drove past a road block and didn't update Waze you hoping that the person after you does, and so on.

I used Google maps for years and then Waze came on the scene and people would go on about fantastic it is. I was initially apprehensive to make the switch because I am stubborn. However, Waze is now my best friend and I am one of those people who go on about how fantastic it is.

I don't make use of any app's or devices permanently however I do have a TomTom navigator as well as Waze on my phone. I find Waze extremely good in terms of avoiding traffic but the best way to avoid traffic without any app's or devices, is to leave at the crack of down in the morning and minimize your irritation by not having any traffic or backlog at all. For the afternoons, unfortunately, traffic is a reality and Waze always finds a way to make your journey a little big quicker.

Without a doubt Waze is the best app to use. Traffic in Johannesburg is a nightmare its better to leave early and get to work earlier than sit in bumper to bumper traffic! This morning the taxi was literally a finger space from behind into my boot its so annoying. When I move I will have to use Waze again to try figure out the shortest and quicker route home.

Cannot really comment as I do not drive. However I do not like traffic at all. The mornings, you can leave earlier than usual and miss it all. Afternoons, You have no choice unfortunately

Having to contend with traffic twice a day - I would certainly say that Waze is tremendous! It is such a time saver - although it somethimes means exploring through the unsafer parts of JHB, I would rather do that than sit in bumper-to-bumper traffic!
