Reviews of the iPhone 8

I was interested to read some of the reviews of the iPhone 8.  It went on sale for the first time on Friday, 22 September and of course differs from the iPhone X, which is the brand new one with the OLED screen, and which only comes out in November.

What I enjoyed reading about in terms of the iPhone 8, it is how this phone compares to other phones from other companies.  The iPhone 8 is of course not going to be as fast as the iPhone X, but the iPhone 8 has a core processor score that is 25% faster than the iPhone 7 and 80% faster than the iPhone 6.  The very fastest Android phones are much slower.  In fact, Samsung’s main phone, the Galaxy S8 is not only half the speed of the iPhone 8, but it is actually still slower than last year’s iPhone 7 and the iPhone 6S which was released in 2015.  Some of the comparisons I read went on to say that basically the closest rivals for the Apple iPhones, in terms of pure power and speed, are in fact computers – and not other phones.

The explanation for this was quite interesting to read and that is Apple designed its own processors.  The competing phone companies do not design their own processors and they rely on chips that are created by other companies.  Everything that you do on the phone relates to the chip and the better the chip is, the better it works.  Chips that are specifically designed, as iPhones are, by the company for the phone will function much better than simply buying somebody else’s chip and then putting it into your own phone.

In short, you can love another phone for all the reasons you want, you can say that you prefer it for this or that reason, but you cannot possibly ever say that it is more powerful and faster than an Apple iPhone, because it is not.  They have the fastest, most powerful phones that allow them to produce benchmark scores far higher than their competition.  At sites like Geekbench you can compare the processors, the scores that they achieve and be able to tell, for example if the iPhone X is going to be almost 6 times more powerful than the iPhone 5.  That is if we are going on single-core performance, but once you start looking at multi-core performance, it would be about 9 times more powerful.

I will never understand the need or the desire to own the latest iPhone. Perhaps this is also because I will never understand the need or desire to have the "latest," or, to follow the newest trend. It's all a consumerism pit of doom.

The iPhone loyalist will always tell why the iPhone is superior to all other makes and they could very well be, but I don't have a need for an iPhone nor do I desire one. I am still loving my Samsung and will probably upgrade to the S8 when my upgrade is due.

Don’t know much about Iphones they to complicated for me. But I know people who had Iphones will never go back to any other cell phone brands, but that is also way Iphone does so well because it is always upgrading.

One thing about Apple is that they know how to keep their customer’s satisfied! It seems like their improvements and modifications keep getting better! This is a good thing because it no doubt keeps competitors on their toes!

I-Phone is great but really overpriced and is probably the most expensive phone on the market. Its a great phone but I would not personally pay for it and would prefer to get something a little similar to the I-Phone at a reasonable price instead.

The phone sounds great but how much would it cost to repair it? I honesty won't spend so much money on a phone

I do not need more than what i have. I do not really use my phone other than for calls, messages, whatsapp and candy crush. On the occasion - google maps, weather and calendar. I feel that the simpler the better

I really enjoyed this blog. People will always come to me and say that their phones Samsung/Huawei etc are so much better than the iPhone but you can’t argue with the facts. IPhone is the better phone. I don't mind paying more for the phone because I know I am paying for quality. I can't wait to upgrade to a new IPhone maybe the IPhone X.

It sounds like iPhone 8 is the best of all.

Well that's one of the perks of not outsourcing, improved quality!
It is highly unlikely that another entity will be able to produce better quality than yourself for your own product.

I am not really a big fan of iPhones, but I must say they are constantly upgrading which is a good thing. iPhones are really expensive to maintain when it's starting to give you problems

This also state why IPhone`s are so expensive. Because they are constantly upgrading and just getting better.

Why do the other cellphone companies not up their speed to stay in competition? This is why Apple stays ahead of its competitors. It's very impressive how they have designed their own processors, and other companies should really learn from that.
The features seem pretty cool, however, facial recognition and retina display / unlocking was a feature on Samsung devices a long time ago so why is everyone so hyped about facial recognition on iPhone? I just want to know if your twin will be able to unlock your phone ='D
Also, are you able to send media from one device to another using Bluetooth yet?

It's a bit much for a phone if you ask me - and it's forever changing and upgrading so is it really worth it just to keep up with the trend?

I really enjoy using iPhone i love the technology they use and just everything the phone offers. Unfortunately I am extremely behind so I will probably only be getting an iPhone 8 / X when the iPhone 20 is out.

I think I would prefer the iPhone 8 because the iPhone X looks massive. I think just in terms of size the iPhone8 would be a better option for me.

Definitely comes with a hefty price tag but it is an impressive and exquisite-looking phone. It certainly looks different to all the other i-phones. More screen to break if you ask me. Wireless charging certainly sounds interesting. I just have to mention and ask will the phone still recognize ones face without make up lol, sorry I had to!

Yeah I think this phone looks and sounds great however I still wouldn't spend so much money on a phone.

It is very sad that South Africa is sow behind with the latest technology. I also would like to have iPhone but this phone is still more expensive here then others. Very interesting to know that iPhone themselves design their own processor. Yes, defiantly the iPhone is the future phone for all!

This is the powerful phone and everyone will love to own one but the price is too high.

It seems that the iPhone X is somewhat of a novelty phone with the iPhone 8 sporting the major advancements. Sure the core processor is undoubedtly faster - but does faster equate to 'user friendly'? I am quite satisfied with the Samsung and Android operating system. Should I change over to Apple I fear that the model I purchase for a rather excessive price will soon become outdated?

I am quite interested in the iPhone X and I am waiting for same to be released over here. I have however read that the iPhone X will be the most expensive iPhone that South Africa would have ever stocked, which makes me a little bit nervous to see the price! I am due for an upgrade next year and I am certainly staying with iPhone, it is just a choice between the iPhone 8 or X...
