The President's Keepers

I know a lot of PDF versions of this book are floating about.  I do think it is the wrong way to read the book or to “support” any author. Authors and publishers don’t make money out of illegal copies of a PDF and quite frankly, with the book not having being banned, there is no reason to circulate the book at this point.  It does not look like it is going to be banned either, although there will probably be criminal charges against the journalist Jacques Pauw.

The book has become the fastest selling book in South Africa since they started collecting data in 2004 and I discourage anybody from reading the PDF version when the book is available on the shelves.  It is certainly a book worth reading, I have finished reading it after having bought it on my Kindle, and I can only say it is just one revelation after another and if only 20% of it is true, and of course there is reason to believe a lot more of it is true, then South Africa is not in a good place at the moment in terms of Government bureaucracies, the weakening of the police force, the loss of talent and capacity in the South African Revenue Services, etc.

There are so many allegations and they are not just all about President Zuma – including the fact that for example it is alleged that even after he became President he continued to receive money from a well-known horserace owner, Roy Moodley, of R1 million a month for another 4 months after becoming the President, etc, but there are just revelations as to all sorts of breakdowns in the police, agendas, etc and I hope everybody involved in politics in particular is reading it and trying to work out where the problems are and what needs to be done about them.

I am not a fan of stealing from any brand or anything like that, if you can't afford the original version or item, then my opinion is that you go without it. It is not fair on the author or brand to steal from them, at the end of the day it is their living and the support should be there if you want to benefit from reading the book/wearing the item etc. That being said, this book has been extremely controversial, of course because it is exposing our president and his unlawful behavior! I say, go Jacques Pauw!

Interesting.I do have the book, I just need to make time to read it. I'm sure I can start this holiday.

I have this idea of growing my own little library at home... This will definitely be a good addition to that library. Nothing better than having a hard copy of a good book

One of my friends actually sent me the PDF version earlier this week, I have not attempted to read it as yet. I would definitely prefer reading the hard copy as opposed to electronic version, due to personal preference and agreeing with the fact that that is not how you support an author.

I struggle to read books on an electronic device and believe that the experience is so much better reading a hardcopy. I agree with Prishani that by buying the book instead of reading the PDF version we will be proving a point and showing our support for the author.

It must be a very good book if it’s hard to get. I hope that I can get one this December to read. I think it will be interesting. I am glad that this book is not banned so that the people can read what is going on with our president.

I would still like to get my hands on a hard copy. Nothing like sitting down and reading a book!!!! He deserves the support from South Africans.

In such a short period of time this book has become sold out I was in the line at the bookstore and the guy infront of me was asking about the book only to find out its sold out already.

Prishani  said:

I really do believe that if we go out and support this book we, as South Africans we will be proving a point and hopefully shake up the correct culprits in parliament who think they are invincible!

Sound like this book is a must read as it’s so difficult to get a hold of. I think authors are putting so much time and effort in a book, more than we realize. All we can do by supporting them is actually buying a copy or rather buy it.

Jadine Richards  said:

Having any novel in hard cover always makes for a better read. In this case in particular I think its important that we buy the book and support the author. I will buy the book even though I have the PDF version as my way of sticking it to Zuma and his cronies... Jacques Pauw is also likely to need some funds to cover legal fees in the near future.

I must agree it’s really difficult to get a copy of this book as I even tried CNA at O.R Tambo when I was there the other day; the lady said they were sold out before they could even unpack the books because everyone pre ordered it
I guess I’ll pre order the book as I really want to read it

Natasha   said:

I also think it is unfair that people read the PDF version of the book the Author probably worked very hard on the book and so that It can be published and now people is actually sending it around s a PDF.I wondered if the are going to ban the book ,because of all the stories in the book if its true or not we will never know.

I am almost at the end of my current book I am reading and am sure to pick this book up next! I think this book might invoke many emotions such as anger and frustration so you have to be ready to take it on.

Looks like a great book to read. Corruption will never stop even if people read the book and realise that it's the truth. They will keep on doing what they did before.

Bianca N  said:

I think that all South Africans should rather buy it than read it on PDF to support the author as he is already facing criminal charges and deserves our support, especially with something as eye opening as this book.

Jessica M  said:

Well now evil looks after evil I guess. You see they keep corruption in so they can be corrupt. That is why I say I want Mayor Mashaba to win and take over.

One thing for sure this guy needs to make lots of money out of this book via he is also facing criminal charges, he deserve all the support from all South Africans

I prefer a book than to reading it PDF style, so there will be n o worries of same. However when I did look on Takealot - all they had was the PDF version - I am very interested in reading the book, but maybe when the hype is over

Angelique Jurgens  said:

Quite difficult to get a copy of this book without pre-ordering. Constantly sold out - which clearly means he is selling and being supported. I wouldn't pay for a PDF as I do not have a kindle and do not enjoy reading a book on my cellphone. I don't think anyone would admit to reading the free copy.

Daniella  said:

There are actually so much stuff that have surfaced after the release of this book, I heard that the news was implying that Pravin Gordhan was Jacques Pauw informant. Which he of course denied I feel as though they would make it seem as it was Pravin Gordhan to make it seem like a "disgruntled employee" would lie etc.

I am super excited to read this book, because it has clearly ruffled the presidents feathers which is interesting to see.

Nina  said:

I am definitely planning on reading the book this holiday. It seems that it will be very informative. I would like to get the hard copy though, I'm not a very big fan of e-books.

I do agree that we should not take away from the Author or publishing house by reading the PDF version, but you cannot deny that the issues raised are issues of public interest. Accordingly, those that cannot afford the hard copy should not be denied their 'right to know'. Of course, not every right is absolute and in this instance it may well be justified that we are to purchase a copy of the book.

It is a tremendous read - although the details relating to SARS are little in depth for the lay person to follow - the bottom line is quite evident!

It is astonishing to see how many players were caught up in the web of corruption!!

It has been noted that key parts of the book contravene the Intelligence Services Act and whether or not a criminal case is looming remains uncertain.

Wasn't this book taken off the market because the ANC didn't like the Truth to come out and isn't the Writer of this Book Under Fair because of writing the facts and the Truth about what happens in our Government that no body actually knows. I for one really wish the this Country can get better and lift it self up again. We are a land with Such wonderful creatures and its just getting destroyed, lets just stand for Africa..
