Google Maps is improved

One of the biggest problems when you are using Google Maps is when you start walking or following the directions, you don’t always know which way to walk immediately.  Google have tackled that, in the latest version of the app, by using computer-vision technology which allows you to raise your phone and see an image of the street where you are and it will have a large arrow pointing you in the correct direction to walk or travel!  Google calls this their Visual Positioning System.  Let me know if you have tried the updated app yet?

It always used to confuse me when using google maps if I had to walk somewhere especially when its an unfamiliar street. This would help a lot.

I always struggle with Google maps does not matter what I get lost, I will download the recent app and see if it will be more helpful as sometime the lady will advise you to turn to late.

I love using google maps and the latest updates of this application did make a difference of finding different places. I even used google maps in Ukraine, so sad to say that I forgot already some of my streets I used to walk around 12 years ago!

I always use google maps and I have not yet used the updated app. I must say that it is extremely annoying putting the GPS on and waiting what feels like forever to get the directing you must drive and then miss the turn because Maps took to long. Will definitely look for the updated version.

I have not used the new and improved Google Maps yet, but at least they have upgraded it a bit. Sometimes I prefer using Waze if it is a destination I have never been to before but will definitely update my App and check this one out

I had no idea google maps had this. It would have come in handy the other day when I had to walk around in Pretoria and had no idea where I was going and I was actually using google maps. I then thought this thing is crazy because it's taking me all over except for where I need to be. Maybe if I updated my google maps on my phone it will then be better and will definitely use this when I need to walk somewhere again.

Waze has not let me down yet, so I’m quite happy with what I have.

I do not use Google Maps and am loyal to Waze but this does really sound like a useful upgrade. Nothing is quite as annoying is starting your journey off on the wrong foot and having to deal with a recalculation especially in traffic. I have heard good things about Google Maps...it appears it may be worth the switch

I recently realized that its a must to update your apps on a regular basis, especially google maps. With all the roads that change on a regular basis, one can easily get lost if you do not update your app - I`ve learned that the hard way. But this new improvement will definitely help me a lot.

it has improved and is a reliable system to such an extend that I heard Ex-President saying that is one of the tools that can be used in land restitution . He says that it can be reliably be used to identify unoccupied land to estimate the distance between it and the nearest town .

Well, that's very exciting! I'm obviously quite technically challenged, because when the google lady says: "Turn right in 500m" how am I suppose to know what 500m is? Do some people just instinctively know, what 500m feels like? I've always wondered. Big up to Google for the improvement. We no longer need to worry about "heading south east" and not having a cooking clue which direction that actually is.

I think that is a great new function. I never really struggled with the Google Map App as I would just count the streets before I'd need to turn etc, that makes it much easier if you're completely lost in an area you do not know. I generally experiment with new routes when someone is with me, that helps us stay on track too.

I have used Google maps before( although I haven’t used it for walking directions) and I have noticed that this is a problem and you often have to wait in the same stop for quite some time before it tells you what to do, this could be a tricky if you at a busy intersection.

Thank goodness for this improvement, Google starts off by telling us to 'head East or West' and quite honestly, no one is certain on which direction that is! I will be sure to download the app and give it a shout., I sure need it - my sense of direction is appalling!

I live in South Africa so I do not ever use Google maps because I don't really walk anywhere with my phone out. I prefer Waze to be honest. I really have not opened Google maps in ages.

I hope it doesn't eat your data, SA has a high rate for their data.(this was referred to in a blog previously) but i don't walk much, mostly take the great Dane around a couple of blocks by my house(well he walks me, i don't walk him), I wont walk somewhere where i don't know the area.

My car as the NAV in but i dont like it because it always takes u on the highways and u struggle to get home addresses its just complicated i only use it when im really lost and my phone is dead

brilliant idea. just tried it, and i don't have that function. i am sure that like most releases it'll happen in the USA first then to the smaller markets. it could also be an id10t error...
