Eating healthy

I can’t say that I am the healthiest eater, but I have certainly tried, if nothing else, to cut out sugar from my diet as much as possible.   One of the books I have been reading recently is called The Clean 20 by Ian K Smith who previously had a number one New York Times bestselling book called Shred.  He lists a number of healthy foods that one should eat, which he calls the clean 20 foods and he includes a lot of things we know that are good.  In particular, amongst the things that I eat quite a bit of are avocado’s, quinoa as well as lentils.  As he stresses, not only are lentils inexpensive, they are relatively quick and easy to prepare and are absolutely full of nutrition.

So much of what we eat is not really good for us and some of the more expensive things, such as red meat, are not that great for us either whereas some things that cost so little, like lentils, are actually far healthier for us.  It is just something to bear in mind the next time you are preparing a family meal!  Save some money, buy something cheaper like lentils and actually eat healthier!

As soon as you start to learn about healthy eating and what is good and what not, you start to realize that to be healthy is actually not that difficult or expensive. It's always much easier to grab a packet of 2 min noodles rather than preparing food, but there are little things that people don't know about which could rather be a healthier alternative and also easy to prepare or get. Like eating nuts, or even biltong as a snack. Which is still very yummy!
As soon as you get the basics of eating healthy, it will only become easier.

Avocado's are the best, we need to know what is good for our health and go for greens

I know eating healthy makes a huge difference to how one feels in terms of energy levels, I know lots of people complain that eating healthy is often expensive, but I suppose there are tastier options or alternatives that are cheaper. It’s always helpful to do some research.

I can do a bit with some healthy eating and winter seems worse than summer I need to get in there and live a little bit healthy.

There are so many diets and beliefs regarding one's diet out there that it is difficult to keep up. I tend to agree with Lucretia regarding moderation. It is so difficult and time consuming to stick to a strict diet these days, however planning your meals ahead is definitely a good idea.

I am actually trying to eat healthy so i spoke to a personal trainer he said according to my blood type i should eat white meat only and veggies as well as salad .It sounds like a good book to have need to get it for myself. Well i am very unlucky when it comes to Avo im allergic to avo so that out for me but i will definitely try the other things i also know that if you cut out all carbs its also very good

I think eating healthy is very important and that books like
The Clean 20 foods encourage and give more information about which foods are good to eat.

With all these fad diets that go around, I still maintain the best diet is "eating in moderation". You need not cut out anything from your diet, every type of food group has a reason to be there and needed by the body, even sugar. As long as everything is done in moderation, you should not gain wait.

I agree eating healthy is very important but self discipline to keep eating healthy is another thing. Honestly I have to go read further as the only thing we use lentils in would be soup.

Eating healthy makes a world of difference. Lentils funnily enough I don't actually mind that much and should incorporate it into my meals more. However, the reality is that its not practical for a lot of us to eat healthy. Time is a big factor in eating healthy, however I suppose everything is achievable if you try hard enough.

Eating healthily is very important to improve most aspects of our lives, I think we underestimate the affect of a healthy diet on energy levels and productivity.

I must admit I don't eat healthy at a lot and I should try to eat healthier. I will keep in mind about the Lentils since my son does not want to eat meat lately.

I'm constantly trying to eat healthy but i never try hard enough. i usually eat healthy for about two weeks and then give up - I am currently trying to get past two weeks and make it a lifestyle change, as it gets to a point where you realize that living unhealthy truly affects you.

I would like to say the same thing, but cannot unfortunately. I do enjoy my nonsense foods...though must admit, do not eat them as much. It is good to take care of oneself. Even though you may not feel it now, it may hit you down the line as you get older

I had started seeing a dietician and my meal plan had a lot of lentils in it and chickpeas. I must say it is easy to make and fairly cheap. You do get sick of eating certain foods but knowing how bad some food is for you and seeing results of eating junk - getting fat and feeling sluggish eventually catches up to you and one tries to make a difference. Eating healthy is not convenient and not cheap but it has more advantages!

I am deciding to go on a diet soon but I am not going to go strictly on just health products. I think water, less food on your plate, less junk food in your life and exercise is the trick.

The truth is that you feel better when you eat better and that has a positive effect all round. I don't eat sugar or sugary foods but I'm lucky in that I have never had a sweet-tooth; I also try not to eat/drink anything artificially sweetened as that in itself has all sorts of negative effects. Best is to drink water (and strong coffee). I am however going to get a copy of this book - the more you know, the better! And health cannot be bought. I foresee a change in the grocery list, perhaps not to everyone's delight!

I do believe that it is very important to eat healthy and have a very healthy lifestyle as well. But it sure as hell isn’t very easy to do so. So I salute the people who succeed in it. I do like my veggies and healthy foods aren’t disgusting or anything, but it's just so much easier to do the opposite. - I love my meat of course. I will never be able to not eat meat.

I would definitely like to follow the course Nicolle has taken, I find it so difficult to eat healthy and I do believe that if you just shut up and do it you will reap the rewards but that's most definitely the difficult part. I'd also love to read this book, maybe for some tips and tricks on how to live better.

It doesn’t have to be expensive to eat healthy and the benefits are endless but it is really hard for me to eat healthy. I try to at least drink lots of water.

Nina  said:

It is definitely something I struggle with, espesially in the winter. I think if you just get into a routine and put in a bit more effort to eat healthy, it eventually gets a lot easier and becomes a lifestyle.

I never thought that I could or would become "that" person. You know, the person who is so aware of what they feed themselves. It used to be: "Fat girl, but red velvet cupcake taste so delicious!!!" Now it's: "No thank you to sugar, no thank you to high glycemic carbs." - and, it's made a difference. It has made a major difference.

I try to eat healthy and drink lots of water instead of cold drinks. I feel people now a days are lazy to make healthy food because all the unhealthy food is so convenient and its so much easier to order unhealthy food. Seems like a very interesting book.

It sounds like a really good book to read. We need to start looking at what we put in our bodies. So many things could be better if we just ate the healthy foods that our bodies need, but in stead it is much easier getting fast food then cooking a nice, healthy meal.

As a vegetarian, lentils, chick peas and bulghar wheat are some of the staples within my diet. They are truly inexpensive and you would be amazed as to what you can create - Lentil soup & Lentil curry are some of my favourites!

With diabetes more prevelant in our youth and on the rise - we should all be more conscious of our sugar in take.

I'm all for eating healthy and working out !
I will definitely give this book a read.
I have recently started counting Macros this is where you tracks macronutrients rather than calories for example you rather keep track of what makes up calories namely protein, fat and carbohydrates as calories are energy not a thing you can touch or take out, this also forces you to actually look at the labels of food to see what is in it.
If you can't work out how much of what you need a day a dietician will be able to help you because you’re BMI, active level and age play a huge role in determining this.
You even get a macro calculator to track you daily intake :)
Just for fun did you know 1 Medium Avocado has 29 g Fat (Good fats) 2 g Carbs and 4 g Protein in it.
This is where Macro counting comes in for example if you can only eat 60 g of Fat a day you now only have 31 g of fat left for the day .

It comes to to point also of do you know what you are putting into your body, I remember an experiment i saw on youtube on Mac D's fries, where the person put them in a sealed glass container to see how fast they will deteriorate and it was disgusting to see that the other foods went off and the fries just kept looking like they were put in there just now.
