USB plugs should be everywhere

It drives me nuts, whenever I am travelling, and I travel quite a bit, to struggle to find USB plugs.  Just about everything you need to charge these days requires a USB plug and while some hotels have put little portable USB chargers in, and some of the seats on aeroplanes now have the USB charges and many of the older planes, hotels and houses don’t have them.  I would not build a house now without putting one or two USB chargers in every room and quite frankly if you are running a restaurant or any industry involving hospitality, you need to have one or two basic chargers, in particular an iPhone charger.  I have written before about how my iPhone battery pack is indispensible – so much so that I now have three of them, which I keep in different locations and they become very useful.

Many of us have become addicted to these screens, but in their defence sometimes quite often the phone does take on the role of your computer.  In other words, one spends quite a bit of time answering e-mails on your phone and actually attending to work.  Not everything that I do on my phone is “playing” or surfing the Internet!  I reply to staff e-mails, I send WhatsApp messages to a number of people and you need to be able to charge your phone often during the day and not struggle to find a USB plug.  I have however accepted that many people do not have these and I bought myself a number of mini-USB plugs so that if I go somewhere that don’t have a USB charging plug built directly into the wall, as many of the more modern plugs do have, I can at least use my portable USB plug and plug it into a normal power socket and charge my phone there and then.

Technology is growing everyday and some places develops slowly, but it will be much better if USB plugs are everywhere.

I agree! These USB plugs/ ports should be everywhere, I am sure we will start seeing more of these plugs in the more modern hotels and restaurants, maybe even in university libraries because I’m sure most students will need this.

This is a very good idee to have build in plugs where you can charge your USB devises it drives me insane to carry up and down the chargers.

I agree that certain public places should make provision for charging facilities as people are very dependent on their phones, however in certain restaurants, I would rather not. It is understandable in certain restaurants where people actually go to work such as a Starbucks, however in establishments where people actually go to enjoy an evening out, I think it will promote use of a cellphone or laptop which would completely ruin the atmosphere.

I think it will be great if there is is usb plugs everywhere it will help a lot of people because sometimes your phone dies and you need to get hold of someone urgently and you cant that has happend to me a few times so i think it is a very good idea

I think it would be amazing if they had more of these ports around as batteries just don't last. Travelling to Mpumalanga there is a stop that has high voltage fast charging station for batteries that charges your phone battery in maybe 10 minutes but how good this is for your battery I cant imagine very. People pay out of desperation to charge there phones super quick to get back on the roads. They have a whole bunch of different adopters for different devices.

South Africa has a lot of catching up to do in this regard. There are hardly any public places that give you access to charging facilities which is incredibly annoying. As soon as I get into the car I put my phone on charge just to allow me to have enough power until I am done wherever I was.

It is exceptionally frustrating to not be able to charge your phone in public spaces! It's quite nice to see that most aircrafts and airports have accessible USB and charging points. It would be nice to introduce them to restaurants too in case of emergency, although there's nothing more frustrating than going to dinner with someone who's constantly on their phone.

It is a very good idea to have these USB ports more accessible . Cell Phone batteries don't last long and its important that your phone is charged as anything could happen and you need to call or use the gps ect so i think its a great idea!

They seem to be incorporated thee days in most places - I suppose some places are a bot slower than others. But yes, they should be put everywhere as it is used everywhere.

I have noticed there are a lot of USB ports popping up which is awesome if you carry you charger around with you every where you go- i'm not really someone that constantly needs my phone which ironically saves a lot of battery life so this wouldn't really affect me.

If power banks lasted longer and didn't take the whole day to charge, I would agree with everyone below that mentioned how brilliant they are. The USB idea is excellent though! With the ever changing technological advancements, we need to keep up. USB ports are the future. I saw them in a few hotels/resorts. Great idea!
Remember when our phone chargers didn't have the option to remove the cable from the power point? Hahaha... The good old days...

Its like wifi, when you on holiday especially you would rather use the restaurant with wifi and USB plugs! Airlines with USB ports are literally the best thing ever - not just for cellphones but if you reading books off your kindle it is literally so convenient to be able to charge everything while you on a long flight not to mention can watch your own movies/series via the USB port. Can Apple battery just last longer already??

I must say the USB plugs make life so much easier. I usually just carry my USB cable with me. And then of course the Power banks are a life saver when you are a frequent traveler. Once again, thank goodness for technology.

At the moment power-banks are the game changers. Our phones are quite active, with messages, telephone calls and emails to and from your work team at court etc that the battery does drain quickly. At some point where we were told that we are not allowed to charge our phones at work, despite the batteries being drained as a result of work. Luckily I was gifted two power-banks, which has made all the difference in the world.

I want one. Especially because I have teenagers that always need a charger for their phones. It really can drive a person nuts.

As much as there still are places that haven't evolved or upgraded to accommodate the USB plug socket, there are substitutes like a power bank for those on the move.

I think more places should accomodate people with having usb plugs as we all have cellphones and they not always used just to chat to friends but also work related and alot of people are not always based in a office. so its important for them to have there phones always charged

I carry around a power-bank so that I am not ever stuck in a pickle - it is a little cumbersome, but you have a power source in the palm of your hands and as you stated above - our phones are often used to attend to work when on the move. I have come across a few USB points within restaurants but I think the longevity of cell phone batteries should be considered by the manufacturers.

Victoria  said:

I have seen quite a few USB ports in many restaurants, i think like you said that it is a very good idea to have these USB ports everywhere. It will make charging your devices a lot easier and you will be able to carry on with work if you able to sit at a restaurant and charge your devices.

Fikile  said:
on Monday 06-Aug-18 10:12 AM
I think also having a power bank can also help but you have to leave with it while it is still full because it can also wear out and that is also bad because finding a plug just plug a charger in other malls and more it is a hustle and it interns to get worse because your phone or laptop can go off on you while you are answering an important email.

Megan  said:

Would be convenient to have these USB plug-ins since being able to remove the cable from the adapter is universal, it makes it much easier when travelling to charge wherever, whenever.

Clare  said:

I like this idea, we should get more of these in our homes as they look better then ugly normal plugs we have for household items but I think that they should have a magnetic charges or power supply because the most ugly part of our household items is the Wires..

I have only seen one of those plugs in the plane. South Africa does not have these type of luxury yet! And Yes I am fully agree that these plugs are very useful, I would install few in my house too.

Bianca N  said:

I think that the standards should be adjusted to the technology we use today. Things like USB plugs should be installed as a standard thing especially in hospitality places, as most of the things we use now need the USB port to charge. It is definitely something that we should consider in our homes and businesses.

courtney  said:

I would love to have one.
USB plugs are definitely the best to have.

brumilde  said:

I think the new standard should def be to replace at least one plug per room to the USB, SA is a little bit behind but most and all electronics will at once stage just use the USB charger and plug, i could def use them in my house
