Oh, the Horror - Saudi Embassy

Every now and then a particular story grasps our personal attention.  For me it was the story of what appears to have been the murder of a Washington Post journalist, and critic of Saudi Arabia, inside the Saudi Arabian embassy in Turkey. Jamal Khashoggi entered the embassy to get paperwork so he could get married.

We don’t know what happened after he entered the Embassy, leaving his fiancée outside, other than he was never seen again.  Turkish authorities say he was tortured, murdered and then cut up with a saw.  A group of 15 Saudi Arabian security personnel flew in earlier that day, on private jets, booked into hotels for 3 nights, but suddenly left that night and fled back to Saudi Arabia.  Its alleged that the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia Mohammed bin Salman is directly implicated in his disappearance.

This is a shocking and appalling story – who would ever think you could get murdered in an Embassy?  It does not say much of the way Saudi Arabia is ruled and I think this will be a major story for a long time to come – and Saudi Arabia deserves to be sanctioned for it.

I know that the son of Jamal is begging to have his fathers remains sent back to them. Some say he was cut up, others say dissolved in acid, either way, it must be an absolute nightmare on those left behind not knowing how their loved one was disposed of. Journalists should be protected people because they are the eyes and ears of the world. What did he know that the Saudi's wanted hushed???

This is shocking where was the securities and cameras, wasn't this planed or maybe he wasn't supposed to marry his fiancé.

Wow! That is shocking. There must be a cover up here, all seems so strange. The embassy is suppose to be if I can call it a safe haven not a slaughter house.

This is extremely disturbing, I cannot fathom the thought of what this man went through before he died. They need to really find the person that chopped this man up and get him away from society because you are mentally messed up to be able to chop up another human.

This is completely shocking. Saudi is of course a power unto itself but this to me seems even beyond that. It is such an extreme violation of modern principles and that is what makes it so hard to believe.

Such a horrible way to go. I can't believe it would happen in a place like that. It is absolutely chilling to even think what must have gone through his mind when this was happening.

Joh that is so hectic. You are not save anywhere anymore. It is really shocking.I cant Imagen how his fiance' should have felt.Knowing that he went in but isn't coming out. I also think this is going to become a big story.

This is horrible. People like that should be punished and thrown in jail and then get the death penalty or something and the embassy is just as corrupt. You can't trust anyone anymore

I also heard on the news slightly different version of this story, but does not matter how the story was explained the outcome is the death of innocent man, who just wanted to resolved paperwork at the embassy.
It is very scary that there will not be the judgement of guilty people, huge money will cover up and make every one forget!

It's quite shocking to believe that countries such as Saudi Arabia still exist in the modern world. It is so distant from Western societies and our ideas. Nevertheless embassies are supposed to be islands of safeties for citizens of different countries and it is also difficult for Turkish officials to take any action as the embassy is not technically under their jurisdiction and any interference would be detrimental to international relations.

I have been following this story in the news. It is shocking that things like this happen and in broad daylight. The Saudis have strongly denied any wrongdoing, however there is a lot of evidence pointing to foul play. The impact this will have on US and Saudi Arabian relations is also interesting as Donald Trump has not taken a very firm stance against what has happened and has chosen to keep relations good.

What a horrible story, a bladdy embassy is supposed to have very jacked up security as many very important people go into such places. I guess in this new world we live in nothing can really surprise us. Shame his poor family. I do hope he gets justice and the guilty people are found.

This is very scary, I mean you would think at an Embassy the security would be pretty strict what a gruesome way to end an innocent person’s life!

Alexis  said:

Now that is something..You walk in to just sort out your papers and have that happen to you. Would be nice that justice prevails, however it seems to go much higher than that and so...I do not foresee that happening

Makes you wonder that people in the Embassy were obviously part of it. Absolutely shocking. Its been reported Saudi Arabia is preparing to admit its agents abducted and killed the journalist Jamal, but his family hasn’t heard a thing. The video footage should be released to authorities! I just hope that justice gets served and that the truth is revealed. The value of life is just nothing and one cannot have an opinion anymore.

They were talking about this on the radio over the weekend, they said Jamal was killed as the result of an interrogation that went wrong but that is just one of the 10 stories at the moment.
France, Germany and the UK have also demanded a credible investigation.
Hopefully they will solve the case and make sure the people who are responsible for Jamal's death will be held accountable.

not nice story at all, when imagining the torturing and killing of someone who does not have people to help. I think it a sad story.

Saudi Arabia does not need anybody be it America, Britain or France. These are the guys who manages to turn a desert into a five star top of the range town. China and Russia are waiting on the wings to do business with them. Watch the space, they will come with a lousy explanation of what happened to the jerno and after a while it will be water under the breach.

Michelle  said:

I think it will be very interesting to see the outcome of this. It is very sad and I do not think we realize the depth of crime some people experience, not just in South Africa. But murder in an Embassy?? - Guess we are really not safe anywhere anymore.

I heard about this on the news, and even now I am still baffled with the how something like this was possible, they had to know his schedule and plan ahead and bride a few people and the biggest question is what was the motive. What do they have planned next?

Jadine Esterhuizen  said:

This is the act of disappearing without a trace. All too well the Embassy has insight to who is responsible for his murder.

Jessica  said:

It is crazy to think that within Saudi Arabia, they practice some of the most strict laws and punishments for various crimes, by virtue of Sharia, Islamic law. To think that the same people that would cut your hand off for stealing are comitting atrocious crimes themselves! Embassy security is supposedly so strict? How were men, armed with a saw permitted to enter? I smell a rat!

Tamaryn  said:

The Embassy knows exactly what happened. Also, what better place to commit a murder/kidnapping than at your own Embassy in another country? I do hope they don't get away with this.

This is so horrific! but unfortunately not surprising! There are events happening like this all over the world where the government will go to extreme measures to keep people quite. After watching Snowden which is based on true events I can believe that the Prince of Saudi Arabia has something to do with his disappearance.

Victoria  said:
