I was very interested to read in a recent interview of Lance Armstrong who is advising that despite the fact he was once worth over $100 million that he had run into financial troubles with all the legal cases, over doping and his cycling career that he was fighting. Of course, he is that author of his own misfortune and he cannot blame anybody for that, but he got very lucky with one investment.
About 10 years ago he invested $100,000 into an investment company and he had no idea what that company invested his money in. He is quite excited now, with talk of Uber listing later this year (and Lyft also), to discover that the investment company invested his $100,000 into Uber! Believe it or not, but the estimated listing price of his shares is now, 10 years later, worth $20 million! In other words, he has multiplied the money invested by 200 times! I cannot imagine that most people would imagine that the universe works that way, but of all the people in the world, Lance Armstrong gets the investment that multiplies 200 times in 10 years, but there you have it!

Apart from all the scandal that surrounds him, he probably had a really good financial advisor and if it was just luck his undoubtedly enjoying every second of it! Unfortunately not all of us can be this lucky with investments! It’s a huge risk to take!

It's a huge gamble and he is lucky he's outcome was income!
I'm still so scared to put any money into anything. It's not everyday that it turns out to be so positive.
If you never try, you will never know....

Well done to the company that invested in Uber on his behalf. Sometimes is better going through a reputable company to handle this for you who has a better knowledge and more experience as they have a broader understanding on what may and not work in the long run. Yes he may be smiling today but he was prepared to loose it in the event it did not pan out so you must be willing to lay down some money to make money and nowadays not many people want to take the risk.

I would say that Lance Armstrong is very lucky, after so many problems he had with his carrier he managed to hit the jackpot!
Armstrong said he was not aware that he was investing in Uber, which at the time was worth $3.7 million, and now Uber could be valued at $120 billion!

There is no doubt that Lance Armstrong messed up quite severely with his cycling career. I think the world has judged Armstrong very harshly over the past few years, maybe rightfully so. I think he may have deserved a bit of luck although I don't think anyone really deserved $20 million.

I agree that it was a great risk but luckily for him it paid off. I don't think I will ever have the guts to invest massive amounts of money as the risks are too big.

I thin it was a very big risk to take but at least it did pay off and he may have a whole of things that he is going through but at least he has the money from his investments that is better than loosing everything.

I don't really know how some investments work but we have to invest to better our future. He is really lucky to multiply his money by 200 times, well not lucky it was a 50 / 50 chance he took. He probably did wear the pro's and con's.

What a disappointment it was for the world when it made headlines that Lance Armstrong the greatest road racing cyclist is responsible for the biggest doping scandal in cycling history.
Maybe he suffered long enough for his bad decisions and the universe was like here you go friend!
Total Luck!

He took a chance by investing $100,000 into an investment company and it definitely paid off. I think in life you need to take calculated risks and sometimes it will work out for the best or sometimes work out for the worst, but taking a risk is better then not.

Talk about being lucky and the investment company investing on the right choice hey. I do not know much about investing etc, except for maybe having a unit trust that will be invested by whichever company I have it in. It is very good to invest as I see it

Investments terrify me. Perhaps, and in all likelihood it's because I do not completely comprehend the mechanics behind it. That being said, imagine if movements such as the "Yellow Vest Protests" started taking place all over world, and, not only in France. The Anti-government protesters wearing florescent yellow jackets aka “Yellow Vests” have roiled France. The “Yellow Vests” are a largely spontaneous protest movement that emerged in France, in October 2018. With no declared political affiliation, they called for lower taxes and a higher level of social transfers and public services. The question then becomes: “will this have an impact on investments”.
Although this is a unique phenomenon, the Yellow Vests are part of a global trend of political and social movements. Actively voicing their distrust of mainstream political institutions, across economies.
A long-winded point, but, money is fluid, investments are largely dependent on socio-economic climate. So, how far will one’s investment go should there be a larger shift to the desire of “self-management”?

Such a Hero and a role model at one stage. Shame to see how he has fallen. He was lucky as the investment could have turned the other route and be with 0.01c. Hope he makes a comeback with his career and personal life.
