Emmy Awards

The Emmy Awards are hosted this Sunday and the amount of advertising that each show uses to promote itself is staggering.  Page after page is taken in edition after edition of the two main Hollywood newspapers, namely The Hollywood Reporter and Variety.  Magazines have had a feast of adverts for months including for a number of shows that you think cannot win.  In fact, the only show I have not seen advertising and a probable winner on some awards is in fact Game of Thrones

It is unlikely that our own Trevor Noah will win an Emmy Award this time, and John Olivier is the standout in that category, but I have seen so many adverts for TV shows I have not even seen or heard of.  Some of course come from Amazon Prime Video such as Marvellous which has 20 Emmy nominations.  When they see us from Netflix has 16 nominations, including for outstanding limited series and the other ones that are advertising a lot include:  Ozarks, Russian Doll and Succession.

I don't really watch the Emmy Awards but i do like to see the fashion in the magazines afterwards.

I don't really follow up with the Emmy Awards. When I used to watch it in the past, I was always disappointed with what they had chosen as winners but I suppose everyone has their different tastes in movies and series.

I've never really been interested in award shows - however when they see us is an amazing series and should definitely win

I only watch The Emmy Awards to see the fashion, and this year the two stars that stood out for me was Emilia Clarke in a Maison Valentino gown and Mandy Moore in a Brandon Maxwell design.

The Emmy Awards is always talked about and everyone would like to see their favorite movies, series and people get announced and acknowledge.

As we all know advertising is about getting a name out to people, the more popular it is the more people will be interested and even more people will follow it.

Thanks for keeping everyone entertained!

I am very behind with all the up to date movies and shows. You will hear people talk about a series and i would have no idea what the show is about, then there is the 'how have you not seen it' look that comes with it.

I suppose this is a huge night in the entertainment business, I normally like watching so I can look at the designer dresses and performances of the night! I really had no favourites to look out for this year.

I love to see the fashion at the Emmys. From the Awards that I did see I also noticed some nominations for shows I have never heard of. My favourites are Handmaids Tale, Game of Thrones and The Act.

I never get to watch the Emmys live. I'm hoping to go home today and see what transpired - but I generally skip to the good parts :)
I don't actually like watching awards shows like the Emmys because I feel like it just a stunt to get more views on already popular shows. You'd be surprised as to how good shows that don't get awards are. The Haunting of Hill House is one of them. Big Little Lies another.
It also seems like the same show keeps winning the same awards. Year in year out.
Give others a chance too! Lol...

If Game of Thrones does not walk away with a few Emmy's I will be shocked. The story, the scenes the graphics the costumes, loved them all.

I have not watched that in years i used to love it but i prefer the VMA awards just because the Emmy awards is so long and can be boring at times. but its always nice to see how they dress

Nice to have some recognition with regards to what you do in life and how well a show is produced, how the actors act etc. I have not watch anything of this sort in a very long time, and will not be watching it even if I could. It's a bit borting and long winded but congrats to those that win and do well.

I don't hold much interest in Award Shows, it is, in my opinion, all an unnecessary spectacle. That being said, I am glad to see that actual good shows, such as The Handmaid's Tale has received a couple of nominations. Margaret Atwood's speculative fiction is most certainly a masterpiece! The plot explore the consequences of complacency and how power can be wielded unfairly. Although The Handmaid’s Tale is set in a distort future dystopian regime, where women essentially have no rights, the concepts of how the powerful wield their power over people is not a foreign concept to everyday acts of living, from the concepts such as the paterfamilias, to the often totalitarian relationships as between employers and employees.

It is no wonder readers, and, now viewers’ imaginations have been captivated by the disturbing reality of complacency.

It will be interesting to see which shows win some Emmys this year. I am a big fan of most of the Netflix nominees but I have to say that the one show which stuck out for me is Chernobyl. It was a fantastic and horrific series by HBO and I think they really deserve some awards for their great job on that one.

I cannot remember when last I have watched the Emmy awards. I even forgot it exists. Trevor Noah is absolutely funny and if anyone is deserving of an Emmy awards it is him.

I like to watch these types of award shows to hear about shows I've never heard of, to maybe look into. I definitely think mini series and series are where its at, many big actresses and actors are moving into that.

I have not watched the Awards shows for a Long time, I used to love them and also watching the Red Carpet so that I can see what these people ware. Now all I get to watch is Paw Patrol and Power Rangers

GAME OF THORNES MUST WIN IT ALL

I have not watched any award shows such as the Emmy's in years. I find it boring, I will see the fashion online but that's about it. I love seeing the looks. Celebrities always try look their best and make sure the top designers dress them. Definitely a big year for Game of Thrones! I know that "when they see us" is not far behind Game of Thrones with all their nominations. There are far too many shows for us, especially in South Africa (abit delayed with series!) to keep up with. Besides watching too much tv is a bad thing. Sort of like our cell phones and social media.

Bianca N  said:

The Emmys are a big deal, and I am sure there will be some winners that nobody expected and others that are obvious winners right from the start. The last shows you mentioned do not sound familiar to me at all, whereas GOT and When they see us have been quite popular and I am sure will win at least one award.

I wish at the end of the day the organisers can tell us how much money they made out of the event . It is a much talked about thing which am sure brings in lots . I route for Noah.

I always like seeing the outcomes of the Emmy and Golden Globe Awards. Although there are the obvious ones, like Game of Thrones that you mentioned, there are always a few surprises that catches everyone off-guard. I wonder who that will be this year.
