U2 – an irritation on my phone

I was a big fan of U2 when they made politically relevant and amazing music when I was young. They went from singing about politics to singing about a beautiful day and their music of the last 10 or even 20 years really doesn’t echo with me. The biggest irritation though is the album that was downloaded to everyone’s iPhone account in 2014 for free called “Songs of Innocence”.  That album has the most wretched U2 music in my mind and I really don’t appreciate it being stuck in my phone.  For some reason it invariably starts playing when you sit on the phone incorrectly and even the album cover, pictured alongside, comes onto your phone while the music is playing.  It took me a long time to find out how to get it off my phone, but I hopefully have finally now deleted it!

My parents were fans of their music which I grew up listening to as well. I have not listened to their music in many years though. I can imagine it being annoying to have a whole album on your phone which you never wanted in the first place!

I actually find a liking in some of the songs they have, but it would be annoying to have the music play without you selecting the song

Hahaha! What a marketing stunt... I remember having a phone that once came with Usher's album already on the phone. I think he endorsed the brand at that time. Wasn't a bad album if I must admit it...
U2, I've never really listened to. Bono kind of annoyed me. My mom might have liked him at one stage though.

I can't stand U2, they actually at one of their concerts sang the famous Julius song "kill the farmer, kill the boer"

One thing about using a song as a ringtone on your phone is that it does eventually become irritating even when it is your favorite song. I love U2 and I love that some royalties from their albums go towards charities.

I have not listened to U2 and i am not familiar with their songs as well. I can just imagine how annoying it will be if songs starts paying on your phone and you did not even press play. I am Just happy that we can decide what kind of music I would like on my phone and i can delete when i want to.

I'm not very familiar with their songs although I have heard of the group and seen them on the Billboard charts a couple of times.

Im not a U2 fan at all. I can just imagine how annyoing it is when something plays without you playing it then to here it over and over DELETE.

That must of been horrible to have it downloaded to everyone's Iphone accounts and have it on your phone even if you didn't want it to be there. I would want to be able to decide for myself what kind of music I would like on my phone.

I personally like U2. I think it must be extremely difficult to stay relevant for as long as they have. My dad listened to them when he was young, as did I when I was a bit younger. It's crazy to be a band which basically made it big in 1982 to still be so well known now in 2019, almost 40 years later!

What a relief to know that it can be deleted! This has been a huge annoyance on my phone and honestly I never even thought it could be deleted. I am going to investigate how this can be done!

That would be extremely annoying - I dont have any feelings towards U2 (negative or positive) But regardless if my phone did that I would be so frustrated.

It will really irritate me when the song just starts playing by itself, but don't know much about them

Can't say that i have ever heard of them ,but if songs just pop up on my phone for no reason ill go mad. I also don't understand why they will want to change their style if the style they had worked well? But must say that photo will just irritate the hell out of me if it had to pop up the whole time.

Tersia  said:

I am not a fan of U2 so that would have really irritated me and for that cover to pop up - I would really "skrik" for that picture! I also don't get why artist have to go and "change" their style of music. If something works, don't mess with it. But also some you win, some you lose - you can't always get it right I guess.

I have not listened to U2 in such a long time. It is not generally my taste in music, it is not bad but it is not something I would listen to by will. I have a wide taste in different genres so I suppose that one moment I would find something interesting one day and the next the song would irritate me

Lourien  said:

I have to say U2 is nice to listen to once every now and then, but I would agree that it would become very irritating if it starts playing for no reason at all. Their cover page could also have been so much better, I just find this one very strange.

There is the new marketing way to sell their music! Wow, I would never thought about it.
Oh well my phone still has a very old ring tone, which my granny used to have on her phone

Megan  said:

Glad to say I wasn't affected by this either, but then again I don't subscribe to Iphone music. I know a few people who have been die hard fans of U2 but I don't think have carried much love for them recently, I still believe music (specifically genres) are phases. You can like a group now for the rock music but 7 months later you can hate them because you start liking other genres like contemporary etc.

I think I just missed this as I only got into the iPhone world in about 2017! Luckily they've not downloaded any unwanted albums to everyone's phones since, to the best of my knowledge anyway. I wonder what made them choose that particular album?

Nikita  said:
on Thursday 28-Nov-19 03:24 PM
I don't know when last I checked what music is saved on my phone. I don't even changed my ring tone to anything special it is usually just the default ringtone that stays on my phone the entire time I have the phone. Luckily I wont have random songs playing on my phone as my phone is always on silent thanks to spending my life in court everyday.

Maybe they are trying to move with times due to the fact that the older generation is getting faced out. They have a new target market.

It's funny how people want to be in the music industries and then they fail dismally, why can't you stick to what you know and that you do best? It's hard to loose the same people you have had supporting you with something you do best. I know the band but i won't listen to their music.

sarah  said:

I have listen to a few of their songs but not a huge fan. I can believe that can get annoying and I would get a huge fright every time a song starts to play.

Bianca N  said:

Not a huge fan of U2, but to be fair I also don't really know a lot of their songs. I have only heard a few, which I guess are the more popular ones as I never look for it, it will just play on the radio. None the less, even if it was my favorite artist, if the songs play without me actually turning it on every time I move, it would become an irritation.

Courtney  said:

Love that one song of them, With or without you, but otherwise, not a fan at all.

Alexis  said:

I do not mind U2, but it is not really a band that I will purposely put on to play in the background. I suppose it was a promotional feature and they possibly did not think that this particular album would sell as well....

Claudia B  said:

I must be honest, I get irritated when, every time i do an upgrade on my phones system, they put music on. Sometimes, i enjoy some of the songs but other times the music they install is lousy. Are these artists getting royalties for this at my expense......

clare  said:

I am not a U2 fan really, but I would understand that it would make you very irritate if a song you don't like is on your phone and keeps paying for no reason.

I am not a U2 fan but I do absolutely love a few of their songs like One and With or without you...so the popular ones I suppose. Further than that I wouldn't be interested, free album or not.

That is quite funny! What a way to get their music out there. I know many people who are huge fans of U2. They are compared to the likes of the Rolling Stones in terms of being the biggest touring bands. We cannot deny that they have certainly done well for themselves. It is usually annoying song, bands and brands that do well because their names are remembered. If you constantly see something you may just eventually give in to either liking it, singing along or one day using their services.
