It has been tremendous to watch the inflation rate really come down steadily over the last few years. Inflation obviously measures what we are paying for food, mortgage bonds and general day-to-day expenses relative to one year ago. South Africa had some very high inflation rates in the past, but in recent years it came down first to about 6% and then slowly headed lower. Right now, it is currently at 3,6% and consensus is for it to dip to 3,4% over the next 2 or 3 months.

Inflation coming down is always positive news, it still feels like the cost of living is so high, you can not go to Pick a Pay without paying at least R400 for one or two bags of essentials.

I think this is good news for South Africa, even if the cost of living is still too high

I really do no feel the difference as expenses are still way too high. We really need some sort of relief somewhere.

This is great news for us. It would really be nice if this could decrease the cost of living as well... Rather, everything still increases.
I think I'm going to do myself the favour by querying everything I pay for this year... It might be a good idea?

Living still seems to expensive! The inflation rate reflects the average increase in the average prices for different goods. I would really like to know what the lower priced goods are that bring down the inflation rate so substantially.

This is definitely positive news for South Africa. It is however difficult to see when the prices of goods keep increasing.

Wouldn't it be nice if the drop in inflation would encourage the drop in prices of products of daily living? I don't or have not noticed any such shift.

This is great news for consumers so early in this year, I hope this keeps on dropping and that our inflation rates get even better for the rest of 2020.

Inflation coming down is always positive, if only previously inflated prices would reflect the same.

A lower inflation rate is an indication of a flourishing economy. Lower inflation rates are linked to lower interest rates which makes borrowing money more attractive. It also has a positive impact on consumers as they are more likely to purchase goods and services. I hope this pattern continues, but only time will tell.

The main reason why our inflation rate is so high is because cost increase somewhere in the production line, such as the labour or the overall cost of production itself. There is other factors as well.
