Covid-19 - the future will be different

The future is going to be very different in many ways as a result of Covid-19.  Let’s remember that this is not the first coronavirus, and it will undoubtedly not be the last, especially if China continues to have its wild animal open markets.  Hopefully there will be international pressure on them in that regard.

How the world changes and what will be different remains to be seen in some areas, but I certainly think there will be much more emphasis, for example, on wearing masks – they will never be considered uncool again and people will not look at people wearing masks as if there is something wrong with them.  Hopefully younger people, especially growing up in this time, will learn the importance of washing your hands thoroughly with soap a number of times a day.  I certainly think in future that people will understand when they get home from a shopping trip or any public event that it is a good time to wash their hands, as opposed to just getting on with the cooking or going to bed!

Whether home gyms, biking at home, etc are going to be much bigger in future is another thing.  I think people are much more social than many of the experts make out and will not really want to be doing all of those things alone.  How long it will take people to get the confidence to go on cruise ships again is another question – I certainly would not be rushing to buy cruise ships shares right now, although once they announce their second quarter results some time in July, it might be a good time to bottom feed.  I was surprised that so many people who got off cruise ships made a big fuss about how all the cruise ships were making them wash their hands before every meal – indicating to me that they have never been on cruises before.  Cruise ships have always done that, because I think they are well aware as to the tremendous risks they have in terms of gastroenteritis, amongst other things.  I would certainly be interested in companies that produce hand sanitizers because I think that is going to be one of the things that last.  There is no doubt that a lot more people, and it will not just be politicians in the future who have always used lots of sanitizers for the hands they have to shake, keep some spare in their cars and probably on their desks at work as well.

Already we have changed in our house hold. We sanitize every time we go out and come back home. I think things will most definitely be different from here on out, things I feel will never be the same again. Some people will obviously go on as normal, but I do think we will realize that a lot can happen through means of technology and that we actually do not have to see each other to be able to attend to work. Perhaps they will also improving some tech and specs to be able to accommodate us more in the future.

I think the future will be different but not as bad as people are making it out to be. Once the cure is develop it will be less dramatic and then even in more year into the future it will be handled like the common cold.

I am fully agree with this blog, our world will never be the same after so many people became infected and died from Covid - 19. There is no other way than adapt to new rules and behavior. I see shops start having in stock hand sanitizers and hand soaps again, so maybe it is the time to get ourselves ready for the times when we will need those products!

As a germ freak, this virus is something close to my worse nightmare. I do however, enjoy the sense of control in maintaining my own personal hygiene and the possibility of not having to shake a strangers hand in greeting again!

Life after Covid 19 will definitely not be the same. I see an increase in personal hygiene and social distancing should really be implemented in future. I am one that is aware of my personal space so I do hope that people realize the importance of this in future.

What I find amazing is how the world is fixing itself up, the now pollution being expelled etc, I mean India can see the mountain range in who knows how long, fish are thriving in places that they long disappeared - so my main thing would be to say that I hope this will show people what is being done to the world we live in

Henrietta  said:

I also believe thing will change to an extend. I don't think people will stop exercising at Gyms due to the socializing but hand shake greetings hugs touching etc will definitely change. We are now in a habit to sanitizing everything and people are creatures of habits and I believe this is one habit we all should keep.

Things will definitely be different after this it already is, I am actually enjoying the social distancing as I am not much of a peoples person, and hopefully even after the lock down has ended people would still see the seriousness of this virus and continue to take precaution.

Chante  said:

There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that nothing will be the same after this Corona virus. People will definitely be more aware of what they touch and this will make most people more conscious of washing their hands more often than not. It will take a long time before things feel even close to normal again.

Daniella  said:

Life after Covid-19 is definitely going to change, people will thin twice when even just shaking someones hand. Social distancing will we hopefully implemented for a long while.

Life as we knew it will never be the same again. I think people will be think twice before booking a holiday where they have to get into a plane or a cruise ship etc. I certainly don't think i would take the risk anytime soon. Masks are being produces by the thousands daily to keep up with the need, people are making all sorts of cloth masks, i think it will just become part of ones fashion going forward.

Tamaryn  said:

As a consequent of any major world event, things have to change. I will be glad to see less hand shaking, more conferencing and on a large scale a greater awareness of not just self but others and the environment too. If there is any good to come of this, I hope it's global and I hope we are not too quick to forget.

The future will definitely be different, people are going to think about what they touching like ATM machines or the lift buttons even the card machines. I think this is going to make people more hygienic and make everyone wash their hands more and more. Hand sanitizers are going to get used more as well. People are also going to be looking at their distance between each other when shopping or when they out somewhere.

I have always been OCD about washing my hands. Anyone who knows me, knows that about me. During this time (and my mom has said the same thing), I think her and I have tripled the amount of times we wash our hands if not more.
I don't think things will ever be "normal" again. And I do hope the sanitizing of everything keeps up.

Prishani  said:

Our "normal" lives as we know it will undoubtedly be changed as a result of Covid- 19. Social distancing will definitely become a huge part of our lifestyle, I think for at least another year! It is going to be a big adjustment for all of us.

This virus is far from over, and has forced a new way of living for the whole world. I think its going to take a while before we can go back to "Normal" again. Which is sad as it is going to be such a big adaptation for everyone as you cannot do all the things as you once did. And I can think its quite frustrating for some people.

Kendall  said:

This is one of the positive impacts of COVID-19. People are practicing good hygiene more than ever and hopefully this is something that last even after the virus settles down. Washing your hands is something you are taught as a young child but it seems as though this was not the case for everyone who suddenly started washing their hands in the past few months!

If it was something that was entrenched in you, this is just a reinforcement to practice good hygiene. I've always had a bottle of hand sanitizer on me, its just strange to hear people were not taught to, wash their hands before a meal or when coming home from somewhere, when they were younger.

Ashleigh  said:

I was just mentioning the same on your previous blog. I really think this will change people for a while and the way that they think going forward. Its great that people have become more hygienic but this virus can still get to you. It will sure have a huge impact on people's way of living.

I sometimes wonder what happended to the manners we were taught when we were children. We always had to wash our hands before we ate, and also after going to the bathroom. I am increasingly noticing people who do not do this, and it is just plain unsanitary and laziness. Hopefully the rules implemented with this worldwide disaster will teach people some basic sanitarial manners, and yes, I also hope that people stop staring at me in shops when I wipe down the handles of the trolley, or sanitise my family's hands with a santiser I keep in my bag. These habits are not as weird as people have been makign them out to be.

Absolutely! We shall all be a little bit more paranoid which means everyone will try to be more hygienic and wash their hands probably more than what one use to. The pandemic has taught us so much and will change many people. I never in my wildest dreams believed I would be living through such a period - it is absolutely unbelievable. I won't lie I enjoy working from home and enjoying the lockdown for now... What a time to be alive.

I think a lot of things will change for the better. Increased general hygiene and thinking twice before touching your face.

It is such a scary time to be alive, it is really beautiful to see the kind of selfless sense of community come out - like the mask making for communities and feeding schemes for the waste pickers and even housing all our homeless people!

Unfortunately, it also brings out the worst in people. Looking at China now and their general, blatant racism shining through. I don't foresee the resolution of that issue even if Corona were to disappear tomorrow.

Sujata  said:

People's perspective on hygiene will certainly be influenced following covid-19 including personal interaction with others. Perhaps for months to come people will develop a certain mysophobic response if not already have, with the need to constantly and compulsively wash one's hands or sanitize surfaces. A new form of normality and approach to daily tasks and office work has certainly set in and may continue to develop. Perhaps we are now moving into the "fifth" industrial revolution as a result of covid-19.

Everything is already vastly different to what it was a couple of weeks ago. To think that so many people are already sitting without jobs. Communication has changed so much. Zoom meetings, WhatsApp video calls, Skype and teleconferences have taken over the way we use to d things. Maybe it will be good for the future if we stay clear of people for a while until this thing hopefully blows over. I've read that the virus will most probably peak in September. I can only imagine how pregnant women and people with pre existing conditions are suffering from severe anxiety in these uncertain times. Knowing that at some point they will seek treatment or will need to go to hospital must be very scary. My thoughts and prayers go out to all of them.

Nicolle  said:

I'm inclined to agree. It would be stupid to think that things and "activities of daily living" will ever go back to completely "normal".

I ponder as to how factories and open plan offices and schools intend to deal with social distancing. Gone are the days, perhaps, of an a factory filled with line workers, open offices filled with staff, or schools with 40 or more students.

The dynamics of the future is uncertain. The future is uncertain. One thing that does remain constant is change. We, as a people, need to adapt and accept change.

I don't think the lock down is going to end anytime soon because the is a video that is being sent over Whatsapp telling people that the is no such thing as corona virus and that it will never hurt black people because it is for white people only and those black people that are rich, also the video speaks about our own president that he wants us to wear the mask but he is not wearing it, the people feel that the president is selling us out. People need to be taught how bad this virus.

I don't think that this virus will be over soon, when the lock-down is over and everyone can move around like how it was...everything will be so different like the shops and the people, nothing will be the same. I think we will still need to keep our distance from the shops and other people. This virus changed everything.

Lucretia  said:

Life is going to be very different going forward yes, especially with regards to technology and how people have realised they can work from home and do things without physically going into the office everyday. I would love to work from home and go into the office say twice a week, this would sort out so much unnecessary travelling time when one could spend it more "in the office" of your own home. In terms of washing hands, i for one, have always had a thing about washing my hands so this is not really new to me.

Mathilda Du Preez  said:
on Wednesday 15-Apr-20 01:48 PM
The world will not be the same as we knew it before the COVID-19 outbreak.
We will adapt and find a "new normal".

Social Distance will be the new normal and the different types of greeting such as hand shakes ,hugs and kissing will be frowned upon.

I think people like myself who went to the gym 6 out of 7 days a week will need to accept that training from home will be better and definitely more hygienic..

Courtney  said:

This virus has certainly changed a lot in terms of how we educate hygiene to our children etc. I sincerely hope that this will remain something that we emphasize to our kids and to ourselves. As far as cruise ships go, I was not a fan of it even before this virus, and I am certainly not a fan now. On the other hand, my sanitizer is practically glued to me now, and I will definitely continue having it on me going forward.

Nicolene  said:
on Wednesday 15-Apr-20 10:26 AM
I personally think that people will only be very hygienic now until we don't hear anything about Corona then everything will be back to the old ways as people forget about things like this.

Karien  said:
on Wednesday 15-Apr-20 10:21 AM
The future will be different, but I don't necessarily think in a bad way.

Hygiene is important and I think many people have realized the importance thereof and how making small changes such as washing hands and staying home when feeling sick, can protect you and the people around you.
I've always been very cautious of what I touch an to stay away from people who look or seem sick, especially because I don't have the best immune system and because I suffer from stress and allergy related asthma.

I watched a video about a man who survived the Spanish Flu and he said that it took about 2 years before people started going on with their lives as normal.

The future is unknown, but humans are adaptable creatures and that is precisely what we have to do, adapt.

Melandre'  said:

Beyond all the devastation and negativity this Virus has brought about a larger sense of consciousness, especially when it comes to hygiene and social constructs, which is ultimately a good thing. Another positive thing is how Mother Nature is healing in many ways with less consumption, manufacturing, carbon emission, and pollution. This is a tough and scary time, however, I do think it has taught us all valuable lessons.

Corona virus has proved in many ways that the world is not a safe place. That we are nothing and can be wiped in a blink of an eye. As humanity we are quick to forget. I don't see many people going to change and in no time we will be back to our old ways of doing things.

This is a terrible time to be someone who suffers with anxiety disorders and the like. I think this will definitely generate some germophobes and cause people who did not previously suffer with anxieties to now have some form of anxiety. This is also a scary time for pregnant mothers who are uncertain about the safety of hospitals and doctors.
