The European Union is now investigating Google’s takeover of Fitbit. They are nervous that Fitbit’s fitness trackers could give Google a “data advantage” in a business which they already dominate, namely online advertising. Google bought Fitbit for $2.1 billion and now the European Union will weigh on this. In the US we are seeing closer scrutiny of Facebook, Amazon, Google and Microsoft as to whether or not they are becoming too powerful and are monopolies. I don’t think we will see much of that, but investors probably will not lose either way, because for example Google had to be split up in different businesses, one being YouTube, another being the automated car, Waymo, and another being the online advertising, you still are not going to lose by having Google shares.

I read an article on this that stated Google announced it was buying Fitbit last year for $2.1 billion and said it hoped to complete the deal some time in 2020. But it’s possible the acquisition will be delayed over fears about the search giant’s increased access to sensitive data from Fitbit’s hardware, including users’ heart rates, their fitness activity, and their sleep patterns.

"Google in the air!" This is very true, now even looking on watch we will see google.
Google has been ranked the world's most powerful brand. According to the annual Millward Brown Brandz survey, Google's brand is valued at $86 billion , Microsoft is ranked second, valued at $70.9 billion.

I agree with Prishani, It's frightening to think that through your devices you can be watched and your movement can be monitored.

It does make me extremely uncomfortable how much information is gathered and used by google or any other site for that matter. You search for one thing and all of a sudden every single advert on your phone relates to that. I don't feel particularly scared personally because most of the things I google are exceptionally boring. But as a whole it makes me wonder how powerful google really is.

Data is a very powerful tool and I think many people underestimate its value in the market. It’s quite scary to think of all the information that has been collected over the years!

I am slowly starting to identify with the people who push trolleys and have foil wrapped heads. It is terrifying to think that most of what these giants do is to manipulate human behaviour for profit.

Well is their really any difference having google on a damn watch or on your cell phone or laptop? I mean honestly. If they so worried get rid of all your technology in your home, because whether it be google or some other app, you still going to "worry"

I agree with Colleen Data is the new currency. Every where you look, you are using data weather its on Facebook and ads pop up or on a game. People are making money using online platforms to advertise and using your data and they are making money off these networking tactics.

I have read in an article one of the benefits of Google buying fit bit the potential of luring health data of millions of Fitbit customers. It seems that health data is the ultimate thing that Google as an advertising company needs to furthering its profile. The most obvious potential lure is the health data of millions of Fitbit customers.Apple has embraced healthcare as their next big battleground in the tech world. Google’s healthcare efforts on the other hand has been quieter. According to statistics obtained from Statista the healthcare tech space could be worth $24 billion by end of 2020

The only reason Google would take over Fitbit is for the collection of more data. It's both amazing and frightening how we are tracked and trended whist going about our daily lives.

I was not aware that Google had now taken over Fitbit, but in all honesty, I am uncertain if it will make a difference. If they are and have become too powerful, then so be it. Though, i do agree that one will never lose in investing in Google either and will most likely benefit.

Google has long been a target of the European Union. Wearable devices like Fitbit’s could in future give companies details of essentially everything consumers do 24/7. This is the future and it will most definitely make life a lot easier.
