Elon Musk - seventh richest in America

It is quite amazing that somebody who went to Pretoria Boys High School and was born in South Africa is now the seventh richest man in America according to the Forbes 400 Annual List.

It is also a very sad story for yet another boys’ school in South Africa that is remembered by what is clearly the most successful student ever, as being an unhappy place for him with lots of bullying.  Elon of course did not form Tesla, he took it over and really took it to new heights, and he also has another very successful company, namely SpaceX.  According to Forbes he was worth, at the time of publication, $68 billion or to put that into South African terms R1122 billion, which you could just round off at R1,1 trillion!

when you put your mind to it, you can become the best version of yourself regardless of how others see you.

Hardship usually builds greatness. Not that I am condoning bullying of any kind. But a lot of the time, the most resilient people are those who have had so face some difficulties throughout their life.

Elon Musk is truly one of the most inspirational people. I will never forget one of his videos where they recorded his reaction when one of his launches was successful and how he ran outside to see it himself and his teams reactions. It always fills me with so much emotion. His saying "when something is important enough you do it even if the odds are not in your favour" This is probably one of my favorite quotes. This man has experienced so much failures with his first few launches and he just never gave up. Its very easy to win, but the hardest thing is to get the courage to stand up after a failure . He never gives up

He definitely showed all those bullies - they probably wish now they were his friends!! It's actually a nice story to inspire a lot of young kids with, bullying are only getting worse and it can really break a person in different ways. It's nice to know he is from our very own Pretoria doing so well.

Very interesting story about Elton Musk, who would knew that this billionaire is South African and studied in Pretoria Boys High School.
Musk spent his childhood with his nose in books and computers, he was ostracized by his schoolmates and regularly beaten up by class bullies, until he became big enough to defend himself after a growth spurt in his teens.
And Today Musk the most successful businessmen!

I always love reading positive stories like this one, it really doesn't matter where you come from if you want to be successful and work hard anything is possible!

Its amazing to see how one person could be so successful even when he was being bullied in school. We should stand up for children who are being bullied in school and also assist them to achieve their dreams as its possible to achieve it and it doesn't matter who they are.

I dont think the school should be blamed, you would be unhappy if kids dont treat you right. Bullying, being a-social. I hated school, but not because of the school itself

That's amazing and just shows you how bullied people rises. It's almost like being bullied gives you a crocodile skin. Damages were done and will always be there but it does not define you or make you who you are, you can chose to be better. Wonder where those bullies are today and what they made of themself.

Truly inspiring story. It is sad that from a young age, people feel threatened by those of a higher intellect and think that by breaking them down, it would place them in a dominant position. However, regardless of the difficulties we face, this just shows that with persistence and hard work you can achieve the best even when others are wishing you the worst.

Even though he was bullied as a young boy at school .. look at where he is now a very successful man. I believe his bullies look up to him now and aspire to be like him. What I'd do to have money like that.

It is always the nerds, the bulled kids that normally make it in life and they make it big, and sometimes the bullies also make it but not as big as the kids that they bullied.

I think an important aspect to remember is that you cannot judge a person according to their present circumstances as you never know what that person is going to accomplish in the next 5 to 10 years. Also the fact that it does not matter what hand of cards an individual is dealt - that anything is possible to achieve.

Mathilda  said:

Amazing! Just shows you that no matter how you grew up or how you were treated, you have the choice on how you want to be when you grow up.
Elon Musk definitely did not let his past divine him and chose to work hard and be a success

It is sad the effect that bullying can have on a person but in the case of Elon, he definitely made a success out of his life regardless of the bullying. This just goes to show that you can do anything you put your mind to!

Kendall  said:

The people with the biggest insecurities are the ones who feel the need to try drag others down. Elon must be an extremely proud man today from all that he has achieved.

And now you can show every bully out there how successful you are! You deserve all the success in the world and even more!

I hate bullying. I don't understand what bullies get out of bullying other people it is so sad, and see Elon was bullied and today he is the 7th Richest in America. Where is the bully today? I am happy for Elon for not allowing the bullying to bring him down in life but rather give him a boost to succeed.

It's sad to hear so many stories of bullying in schools, even to this day. If only people could peek into the future to see what may become of the people they bully - maybe they'd think twice. Maybe not. I think once a bully always a bully and they tend to turn out worst off in life. Elon got payback- he became successful! I wonder what his bullies made of their lives.

What an inspiration! In my honest opinion - and it's sad to say - but many success stories come from trauma or bad experiences like for example bullying.
Another sad fact is that bullying is something that will never go away.
