I was reading through the earnings of the most well-known people on TikTok and although they are doing very well it was not exactly the figures that I imagined. Forbes estimates that the number one earner is Addison Rae Easterling who earned $5 million in the past year largely through branded merchandise and sponsorship from companies. Of course, that is not bad for a 19 year old, but it is not exactly the figures we hear in other fields. Second and third are the D’Amelio sisters of whom Charli D’Amelio is the better known. Charli D’Amelio earned $4 million in the last year, which is fantastic for a 16 year old and her 19 year old sister, Dixie D’Amelio earned $2,9 million. How long those types of gigs last is another question and I am not just talking about the concerns that obviously many might have about the future of TikTok, but as long as they invest the money wisely, don’t spend too much in terms of getting a very fancy house, they will not have to work again.

If I were younger and more creative, I may see this as a feasible career opportunity. I really admire people who see an alternative opportunity to earn some money and succeed with it.

TikTok really does help those who are already creative to create. Due to Tiktok's unique delivery algorithms it makes it easier to get higher engagement on ones videos with a lot less effort having to be put into these videos. If you are smart and put together a hilarious video or something other people have not done in the past and can cause your tiktok video to go viral even if your account has just been created and you have zero followers. I think this is a great platform to market yourself and gain popularity to attract business and marketing deals.

And that is how some people get their foot in the door and start other things like reality TV shows or become a movie star. It's definitely a stepping stone for some, depend on how you use it and if you can make something of it. It will probably also fade out eventually like Facebook did and then something new will come a long and another person will be famous for that.

TikTok is so addictive! would have been interesting to see the earnings if Donald Trump actually managed to get the app banned in the USA. Luckily that didn't happen though.

They are truly lucky to have that amount of money coming in but yes it is less than one would expect. This may not last long as many social media platforms got old quickly of course things like facebook & snapchat have stuck around but not all apps are as lucky.

Tiktok blew up in the last few months. I think it came out at just the right time during lockdown when everyone was on their social media. I do however believe that TikTok will not last as long as Facebook and therefore they have to work with their money wisely.

I am also on Tiktok and have a very small account with only 3.5k followers and to be honest, it's really not easy to get 'famous' or known. You always need to be on time with trends and the life of an influencer ( Addison and Charli ) cannot be easy. Although they get money out of it, they also get a lot of hate. I take my hat off for them. they've worked very hard to get there.

I wish I was more entertaining and out there so that one can make money without needing to study. Even when you do study, there's no money and no jobs. So these tik tok stars can count their blessings lol. I am sure when they started making silly videos that they never imagined that they could make so much money. It was probably all for the fun and the fame! I think its awesome how times have evolved and how influencers make money. One thing is for sure, it takes a lot of time and effort as much as it is "easy money". It certainly takes a lot of time and dedication. You also need to have the personality for it.

I agree they need to be savvy with their money, all three of them. I've heard so many stories about how people come into money and don't invest correctly or save. I do think they need to have financial advisors as well since they're so young and don't really know what's best for them. Who knew, just from adding a few videos, you could be in forbes... Good for them, but yes very good question, what will the future look like for TikTok?
Victoria said:

I agree they should be very clever with their money and rather invest it, not spend it on things that are not needed like a fancy million dollar house. Really is amazing how much money they making from making videos.
