One of the benefits of Covid, and there have not been that many, are the free concerts you get online now. Almost every DJ produces some free concerts for YouTube, some of them lavishly shot in deserts and on mountain tops, etc. Paul van Dyk, who produces his own songs in addition to being a DJ, used to cost quite a bit of money to see in Johannesburg, when he came for massive raves (ala Camel Pyramid of Light) is live most Sunday’s with what he calls his “Sunday Sessions” and I actually enjoy these tremendously. I generally go onto YouTube, play a trance or techno-type DJ set on one screen and then get on with my work. When I am working I don’t like to hear music that has lyrics because that distracts me, but if the music has no lyrics, it is very easy to work to is. Has any of you seen any of these live sets by musicians or DJ’s you like?

I've seen quite a few of these being advertised. But I must say that the experience in person is entirely different. I quite miss it.

I can't say that I listen to live DJ sets, but there are a few events companies that are hosting live streams of various artists. The last one I saw was very cool, there were various "rooms", each with live music that you could switch between.

During lock down I would pay to watch a South African comedian "Schalkie" on his online performances. It was really enjoyable. I have not yet watched any free concerts but I can appreciate that artists take their time to do this especially when their industry has been one of the hardest hit.

I can imagine how entertaining a real concert can be. I am much rather sit at home and watch these concerts from my laptop.

I have never bothered with concerts. So whether it is live or not, it does not matter, I stream my music anyway and have never liked going to a concert.

I haven't heard about this or seen it. The COVID may have changed the course of many things that we used to do live and people had to now make alternative arrangements in order to earn income and continue with their career.

Free shows and concerts are great and all but I'm thinking about the income that these artists are losing. Even though it is nice of them to still be entertaining it should be hard for them to be losing out. I don't tend to watch these shows, so I cannot really comment on my favourite music artists which I watch online.

I think the Covid pandemic have opened up other means for people to still continue what they are doing, we are people who adapt and evolve. I was never into techno music, oomph oomph oomph. But each to their own.

I have not, though one gets plenty options to listen to what they want whenever they want these days. I would prefer to see anyone live as it is much more of an experience than watching them on a screen in any event.

I have watched a few on Channel O and Trace Music. I enjoyed them a lot because you get to listen to some of the old school house music.

I always listen to the Lockdown house party on channel O and they always bring DJ's that still play old school house music and it is always good music

I've actually seen a few that charge to watch. Local artists though. Also not trance DJs lol.
One night last year, Disclosure had a live session on YouTube. OMG did I have a tiiiiiiiiiime! A leafy rooftop setting. Super chilled vibes. Another live session they did was in Plitvice Lakes National Park, Croatia (pre-recorded live session still on YouTube). I can't explain in words how beautiful this place is. You have to see it for yourself.
I've also watched Rufus Du Sol live from Joshua Tree, California (pre-recorded live session) which was just as a amazing! It was late afternoon going into sunset and the desert just lit up. Simply spectacular!

Wow, YouTube is full of surprises, I did not even know that today we can find something like this for free. I was always under impression that even online you have to pay for your ticket.
I am enjoying music by Paul van Dyk, will defiantly check his “Sunday Sessions” out.

I have seen a lot of DJ's and Artists doing these live concerts but I haven't watched any of them. I really think it is amazing for artists to be doing free concerts for the world but also to keep themselves relevant in the music industry.

I've notice that many Afrikaans musicians do this. They ask like R50 fee to join and you can watch them live from the comfort of your own couch. I suppose everyone still tries to be popular and this is the way to do it.

Personally a deep house/electronic fan so I've never heard of Paul Van Dyk, I've watched sets by Disclosure and Zhu which are favourites and locally I enjoy listening to Kid Fonque.

This days every one tries to remain relevant and keep his/her fans going or else they will move to someone who is making him/herself available. I have seen them but they are not good.

I have not seen it yet. It's awesome because you can watch it for free, but I must say I would much rather pay to go to a live concert than watch it on YouTube. I cannot wait to go to a live concert again.

I have not seen it as yet, but I do understand what you mean with listening to songs with lyrics while working, it is completely distracting and I eventually start typing what I am hearing in stead of what I am supposed to. But, I will have a look at the free concerts, I am sure it will be fun to watch.

I must admit, I have not personal watch any DJ's doing concerts on YouTube. The only YouTube video's i have watch lately was your Ads. I do however like watching the concerts once in a blue moon online, but it makes me wish I was their. Like the one with Shakira and JLo's super bowl performance. It must of been amazing.

I go to a lot of Trance Festivals and absolutely love it!
I have actually seen Paul Van Dyk live and it was amazing.
I bought tickets for a Trance concert on YouTube for New year’s, but now I know that there are free sessions online and will definitely check it out.

Yes i have seen plenty of these mixes and a few of my friends have been doing these sets for more recognition during the lockdown and its been amazing on club quarantine or other live streams . They may not be as popular as Van Dyk but they are climbing the ladder doing radio sets ect which is amazing. I love playing these mixes in the background whilst busy.
