We really are beginning to see a combination of unfortunate things increasing the price of petrol. At lot of attention is given to the 31% of the petrol price that is in taxes, some of which gives us the valuable benefit of the Road Accident Fund, but that is not the main cause of the cost of petrol. The main cause is the rising price of oil and it is rising at the same time that the Rand is weakening against the Dollar. It means that the price the country is paying to bring it in is increasing, and as long as the price of oil keeps going up and the Rand keeps weakening, there will be little or no mercy! In fact, right now the Rand is trading at a weaker rate than the average for the last month, which was R14,81. That means, all things being equal, we might very well be looking at another petrol price increase next month, despite the shock of this month’s increase. R19,64 a litre is extremely expensive – and it looks certain that we could be paying R20,00 soon if things don’t improve.
Quite coincidentally, just ahead of the elections, the Department of Mineral Sources and Energy, who used to publish the changing petrol price on a daily basis, decided that they will only update it twice a month in future, once at mid-month and the other at month-end with an improved press release. One can thus no longer look up the daily basic fuel price and speculate as to what increase will happen at the end of the month.

Well we are now going to now start paying R20 a ltr from tomorrow the 1st December and like usual when petrol goes up so does everything else. People are suffering as is and things just keep increasing... Interest rates have gone up too now. When can we have a relief is the big question... I don't think this country has any offers for relief for its citizens.

This is getting a bit out of hand now... And it's going up again in December. 81c for petrol and 72c for diesel. Ridiculous!!!
Soon enough it will be a case of staff having to take leave because they can't afford to get to work.
Wouldn't it have been lovely to have a "Black Friday" special on petrol?! And to think petrol cost R12.02 in May 2020, even though we were all locked down and couldn't go anywhere anyway...

It is like the chain reaction, first petrol price increase, then South African Reserve Bank increase prime rate to 7.75% (by 0.25%) and now we will start noticing price increase on all the food, electricity and water.
Not positive notes to meet Christmas this year.

The price of petrol is really expensive and it is sad to say that we cannot trust public transport. There is no way out on this one as we need the petrol to travel. The electrical cars was an option at one point but was not much of a success.

Considering how the fuel prices are now at a record high I think a review is long overdue. There should be greater transparency in how contributions to the fuel levy are used and managed and whether it is necessary.

The weakened rand and petrol price is crippling us. When I filled up I got such a shock because in the price difference of what I was use to it being when filling up. Are there any fuel stations partaking in Black Friday specials lol. The fuel increase is definitely going to delay economic recovery and is an additional burden to the economy.

Very soon we will be working to just travel to work as taxi and bus fares will be going up. The sad part with taxi and bus fares is that when the petrol price goes down they don't decrease.

Petrol is really expensive now and I just hope that it doesn't increase again because if it does then taxis and buses will have to increase their prices also and that will be hard on the passenger. Increase of Petrol only means increase of food and already people are struggling and it will get worse.

We're just waiting for the day everything becomes unrealistically expensive that we can't afford to live without being in debt, struggling to stay a float and begging more Countries to bail us out. Just keep creating debt...

The rising cost of petrol is killing the average person slowly. What used to cost me R900.00 per month to come to work is now costing me over R2000.00. It is a worrying factor because our transport system is non existent and, therefore, we have not choice but to use our own vehicles.
