I really enjoy the very well written marketing e-mails from the Daily Maverick. The latest one, written by the editor in chief, Branko Brkic, reminded readers of the role, particularly of the Daily Maverick and the media, with the Gupta leaks. It was after all not the Hawks or any of the captured arms of the government that exposed what was going on – it was the media. That corruption was further highlighted recently by the massive report in the state capture commission of Chief Justice Raymond Zondo. As they say, some 5 years later, Zuma and the various Gupta people are still fighting to avoid facing justice, and much harder than they would have expected, but at least now we know what they were doing.

The media plays such a big role in our daily lives. They do most of the investigations. Sad to say that most of media reports are negative!

The media plays a very important role in a democratic society! Without their research and investigation, I can’t imagine all the information we wouldn’t know about!

Its seems that the media is doing more investigating then the Hawks but i feel the Hawks are a waste of the tax payers money and they are just as corrupt as the criminals

The media still only tells us what they want us to know. There is so much more going on out there that mainstream media doesn't tell the us about.

Well media is very very important to catch liars. Such as Amber Heard. I am so use to the different people being corrupt in SA that it doesn't even surprise me anymore.

Zuma lied to get medical parole but then that was ruled illegal and now he is back to prison, what next will he lie about and maybe actually be set free or given lesser sentences etc. I wonder if it even means anything to us for them exposing the Gupta's, there's way to much corruption and the law is never really in our favour so will they even stay "captured"? as Alexis said, one really is so disheartened by news.

I would love to sit and watch a court case which has Zuma and the Guptas in it. I think it would be a show of note but, that is not going to happen. This is Africa and wheels of justice turn very slowly for some.

One is so disheartened by the news theses days. Our president and the scandal there, the possible national lockdown that was meant to happen today. Everyday there just seems to be something new. It is however nice to hear that media had a hand in exposing the Gupta's
