There are plenty of things that I would change, but one of them that drives me crazy is that in this day and age when people have turned against smoking on such a large scale, is why you have to have an ashtray built into your car? I cannot see why that cannot be an optional extra, for those who want it, because those who do not smoke will never allow someone else to smoke in their cars and so it is a waste of space for someone like me when I would not mind that being a little shelf for all the cards you have to pull out these days – garage cards, secure estate access cards, Exclusive Books card, etc, etc.

What would you say if when selling your car after you have had enough of it that the buyer was a smoker and then did not buy your car as there was no ashtray ? If you do not smoke use the ashtray to put in all the cards mentioned then close it and no one will see the cards to steal from your vehicle. I personally see your comment as the now normal complaning that non smokers have to smokers. I have no problem as a smoker to not smoke in any place where there could be non smokers, but we all have a right either as smokers on non smokers. So if the non smoker has the right to be in a non smoking enviroment, then smoking places should be available for the smokers, lets be fair here. You can not have it one way. No matter what you think about people that smoke it is not wise to blasfeme them as they have the same right to smoke as any non smkers have the right not to smoke. I was at a large hospital the other week, no specified smokoing area built or demarcated for us smokes I saw people standing outside the hospital with there jams on and drips all over the place smoking, what would happen if hey keeled over outside or got hit by a car in the parking lot, they are otside the hospital premises and the hospital managment allow them to leave the hospital but they are still under the hospitals care legally as they have not been discharged, now you non smokers will say well they should not be smoking at all but that is your thoughts on the matter, it is not a right for a non smoker to critisise a smoker for his habit so rather keep quite about the matter. End of the day in any public place if a non smoker has the right to not have to breath in cigarette smoke emmissions from smokers then ther should be a specific place in the public area for the smoker to use and not be seen as "bad stupid people", then the game would be fair, right now it is not.

I wonder why smokers think it's ok to put this stuff into their bodies, but are so horribly disgusted by having the 'divine aroma' in their car?
Talking about smoking and changes in general - I'm glad the law has changed and it's not legally allowed to smoke in public areas, but like always, the law has to be reinforced.
To my shock, I still see people puffing away on kids playgrounds and claiming that 'it's ok because it's outdoors'. I had numerous fights with those.
My view on that is simple: It's a personal choice and one can do anything he wants to his body, but I don't want to be exposed to that.
By the way, ashtray in the car doesn't bother me. I don't even know where it is in my car :)

I dont see the use of an ashtray in a car either, because i never use it. There is nothing worse than the smell of smoked cigarette butts and why you would want your car to smell like a cigarette butt is beyond me. I'm not one to talk being a smoker myself, but i cannot handle the smell of an ashtray. The car ashtray is however good for keeping your change in it and like you said garage cards and the like.

I agree i am a smoker my self, but i do not smoke in my husbands car unless, it's on a very long journey and even then, i open the window wide and i smoke out of the window, but i do not use the ashtray nor the lighter in the van,so i agree they could use the space for something else.
