Pigspotter makes the news

The person on Twitter, who identifies himself as “pigspotter” has made a lot of news recently, due to the fact that he gives out information as to where police are trapping. There are different cases with regard to this scenario, and I certainly think he will be treading on dangerous water if he is doing this for any other reason other than trying to urge compliance with the laws. Having said that however, a name such as “pigspotter”, calling police “pigs”, I think is extremely offensive and it is no wonder that they are so upset about him. If he had come up with something like a “copspotter” and emphasised that he was simply drawing to people’s attention where roadblocks were taking place, because he feels that people should drive safely and comply with the law, then I don’t think he would have the problems that he is currently going to have now.

It is simple: do not speed, do not be reckless on the roads. Anyway, cops are not supposed to hide. The point is to prevent accidents ie slow everyone down not catch them when they are speeding. Like 94.7 say, "DRIVE WITH YOUR LIGHTS ON" all day

The name calling is wrong - defamation of character but i agree with Bridget, if the shoe fits! Most of the metro are so rude and unnecessary to innocent people and now they on the receiving end. We meant to know about road blocks in any case, however pigspotter doesnt realise he is also making it easier for criminals to avoid road blocks and take alternative routes for their 'getaway'.
Nonethless his in alot of trouble, wouldnt like to be him!

what is the big fuss(pig spotter) we used to call the police pigs many years ago already and most of them are just that!and i agree with him hiding behind bushes and in peoples gardens is not the way it is done, although if jeremy clarkson is any thing to go by they seem to be doing the same in the u.k now as well,it is illega! and i agree try getting out on the roads and see how some of the idiots drive in this country! it is not just drunk drivers there are too many idiots on the roads in this country, they have no manners and drive like maniacs, some of them should not be allowed on the roads and they do not have legal licences, get the brought to book, and maybe the accident rate would be better, instead of walking there fat ... around shopping mall parking lots and sitting behind a tree drinking and eating looking for the next poor sucker to catch

Not so sure the name "pigspotter" has gotten him into trouble. I think its the fact that motorists are being warned as to where road blocks are and where police are trapping and this is causing people to be alert, and the police now feel that since motorists are aware of the fact, they will be taking precautions and therefore less fines will be made out, resulting in less money for the Traffic Department. Traffic Officers work on a commission basis and if they dont fine anyone, they dont get commission. That is how corrupt our law enforcement has gotten that it has become more of a money making scheme rather than an actual serve and protect attitude. Watch Christman time, how the road blocks increase due to the fact that bonuses are paid out according to how many fines are issued.

Apparantly the cops do not have recourse against him for name calling.(some Durban case) The cops are supposed to inform us of road blocks anyway. This guy not only calls them pigs but also other derogatory names. Some cops tend to intimidate and taunt innocent people so now they are on the receiving end of the stick and are now squealing. If the name fits wear it!

the simple fact is that hiding in bushes and taking photo's of cars going 10km/h over the speed limit, or fining people for parking 10 mins longer than they should have DOES NOT STOP ROAD DEATHS - visible policing does. The metro 'police' dept cannot even perform their most basic duty of ensuring the safe flow of traffic - that has been outsourced to Outsurance, while the metro 'police officers' wander through stationary traffic at broken traffic lights and fine people for talking on their cellphones. If the metro 'police' wanted to stop deaths and ensure safe driving they'd have their roadblocks on friday and saturday nights outside the clubs and pubs. going 10km/h over the speed limit doesn't kill - DRUNK AND RECKLESS DRIVING DOES!!! The metro 'police' seem only to care about revenue collection. they are a corrupt bunch of incompetents, and so long as they concentrate on revenue collection, they deserve nothing more that the contempt of all motorists.

Is he going to have serious troubles with law, if he is caught?
Is it so hard to identify a tweeter blogger? Even if no personal details are provided, surely one can check IP address, etc?
