Super Sport fake “live”

I must say I find it very frustrating if I am watching TV and Super Sport has put a logo over the channel indicating that the golf is live, to realise that I am actually being had, and that whereas a player has been shown on the 8th hole for example, he has already completed the 11th hole and is on the 12th hole in reality – a difference of about 30 to 40 minutes. To make things worse, if I go straight to the PGA Tour website, I can watch the coverage live and see what is going to happen on Super Sport in 40 minutes’ time - now! I don’t have a problem with programmes being transmitted as delayed, if they have to for some or other reason, but I think it is patently dishonest to pretend, as they did during the US Masters last year, that they are broadcasting something live when in fact they are not and whether they are doing that because play has been suspended due to inclement weather which has affected The Tour Championship, does not matter – it is about telling the truth.

Hi Michael,

This complaint is not new – and nor is it entirely correct.
Simply put, SuperSport takes the feed on all PGA Tour events LIVE. This is the honest-to-goodness truth. The broadcasters in the US (over whom we have no control) choose to delay some of the play in the first hour -- to set the scene and show some shots that might have been missed by the overall field.
Thereafter they resort to live and focus mainly on the leading groups.
We have addressed this issue with the PGA (from whom we purchase the rights) but it seems to no avail. ALL other broadcasters taking these tournaments are affected in the same way. Neither they, nor SuperSport, is being intentionally deceptive.
As for the “live” tag, this isn’t meant to be fake. Saying “sort of live” or “occasionally live” isn’t industry standard.
Our advice? Don’t go on the Internet for the first hour, sit back and enjoy good old TV in which you get to see some of the shots that you might have missed earlier.

Media is one big lie or illusion. It's all about giving you what YOU want even if it is not true we eat it up.
Computerised perfect hair, skin, shape, reality shows (not reality at all), WWE Wresting I can go on. Media will do what ever they want as long as we are entertained. Probably it appears to them that no on picks these thing up but in actual fact life has gotten so complicated and distorted no one seems to care much and if they do it's a small minority.

sheesh!!! glad i didn't bet on something 'live' when the bookies would already know the outcome. Why not just say 'live delayed by 10mins' or something like that. a little disingenuous to knowingly label something incorrectly...
