The KwaZulu-Natal government is circumcising prisoners to reduce the rate of HIV infections. Apparently more than 10,000 circumcisions have been done since the programme started in April and it is well-known that men who are circumcised are less at risk of contracting HIV than those who are not. I think it is a very bold move by government that acknowledges this fact and is trying to do something about HIV in prisons.

I'm not sure how I feel about this. First thoughts were, wow, great - ja, go ahead, chop it off....Having prisoners in mind that got life or the rapists etc. Unfortunately we need some form of permission I guess. Does it REALLY decrease the risk of contracting HIV?? Sjoe....

about time they woke up and started to realize just how bad it is, the only thing i would do different is those in there for rape and sexual abuse should just be neutered altogether

Didn't know that. Strange,... Im sure the prisoners have to consent though.
