My wife snapped the accompanying photograph at a popular casino recently, and I thought it epitomised modern dating. I have blurred the man’s face but the couple, who appeared to be waiting for their first course, are both merrily typing away on their own cell phones busy with their SMS’s and all the usual things couples seem to do these days, rather than talk to each other!

Yes Daniela - coffee is usually served at home after a "good" date! Lol! Maybe she is foreign and they're both searching for the "language" option on mobiles.

Coffee usually comes at the end of a date.. I think they are both msging their friends to say that they better take cover. They're in for it!

Still think this is a first date gone wrong.... Silence is golden in certain circumstances. They don't smoke, both have cuppacino's, Casino (popular first date venue) - definitely a first date gone wrong

I honestly think it is a blind date. I know when I go out with my boyfriend I do not take my phone out and have conversations with other people. It's really sad and disrespectful. So much so, my friends always complain because i tend to be out with them and chat to him on BBM.
I think they are both about to get the "I have to go, it's an emergency, we should do it again" story.

they look utterly enthralled by eachother's company... if that was a 1st date, I doubt there'll be a second. Certainly, if I took someone out and they were constantly busy on their cell phone, I wouldn't bother asking them out again...

That must be the most annoying thing ever. But it happens- you sure its not father and daughter? If it is a relationship then I'm thinking they use to one another maybe fighting really just bored with one anothers company.
