I took a poorly lit picture of my daughter speaking on Skype to one of her cousins in Italy, albeit to make the story more complex, a Russian cousin. It is amazing that not only has the Internet, via applications like Skype, cut the cost of phone calls dramatically, but that you can now have a video call for much less than what a fixed line operator, such as Telkom, would charge you in the first place.

I love the skype network, not only for its pricing, but also the technology involved. A normal telkom call could be great to speak to someone overseas, but having visual contact with a loved one is so much more personal as well. And the added bonus is yes, it is much more cost effective as well. You've just got to love technology of today.

To think when when children, like your daughter are grown adults they will not know what it was like not to have a choice, to only be able to speak to family overseas without seeing them. Scary and exiting to think what else we will be able to do then. Perhaps teleporting.

Skype is awesome, especially since its basically 'free'. Only thing is that the connection isnt always fast and sometimes is a bit delayed. I skype my sister in New Zealand almost everyday, infact my skype account stays online most of the time- Its like a telephone it rings whenever someone phones LOL.
