Google is now launching a new social network to take on Facebook. It is apparently called Google+ at the moment and will have all the usual profile pictures, newsfeeds but where it will differ from Facebook is that you will group your friends or contacts into specific circles. Obviously, they are entering the battle after Facebook has already reached 700 million members, and it will be an uphill battle, but one should not forget that MySpace was first, and yet their leadership and their 150 000 000 members at the time, ultimately counted for nothing. People do sometimes like a new product and there are many privacy issues about Facebook that the Google products may see an opportunity to address and also offer a special video chat feature.

I am losing track with all these social networks. Whilst it is awesome to be in touch with good friends from my school days, i value the relationships i have with the people (In physical form) more.
We have become a society that speak to others via cyber networks instead of actual socializing and interacting.. Now they are just giving people more options to neglect valuable relationships with the people who are a part of their everyday lives.
I am just not interested in signing up with any further networks, no matter how pretty and sugar coated they try and make it. I would much rather focus on the people that surround me daily.

I also deleted my FB account a few months ago, I see no need for people to have access to your life if they are of no importance to you. Even though you block them the point is before you even remember that person they have already seen what's going on in your life. It's very boring and I have all the people that mean something to me as a contact on my cell or on BBM, I think facebook just causes unessasary problems in people's lives! Ex boyfriends or girlfirends that can't get over their ex blah blah blah. The only good thing about facebook is sharing photo's with your family and friends. I don't even use twitter much, no point in seeing what other people are up to if they don't mean anything in your life or even interested in what you doing it's very boring. I prefer phone calls and smses they still the best way to communicate :-)

I have to agree with David's comment, people are getting bored with FaceBook as "the" social network. I think many users have moved on to Twitter etc.

I closed my FB account about six months ago. Haven't missed it.
I am more of a Twitter fan. Whereas Facebook is connecting with people you know and don't necessarily want to connect with, Twitter is more random and entertaining. If it just for a random few minutes of conversation with someone in a completely different part of the world to learn a bit more about other places, it's really a fun way to communicate with others and with locals too of course.
Hope Google gives Zuckerberg a run for his money, although it may take a very long time. People are getting bored of FB.

I recently read somewhere that Facbook is losing members in the UK and USA - people closing their accounts. I wonder if people are becoming bored with social networks, or just facebook. I closed my facebook account sometime ago, after being contacted by various arbitrary people that I had nothing to say to. Strangely, I actually speak to the people that mean something in my life, and there's usually a pretty good reason for me to no longer be in contact with the ones I don't...
