The new iPhone was announced, and much to the disappointment of many, it was not a huge upgrade. In fact, it is called the iPhone 4S, and while it is an improvement on the current iPhone, it is not a huge change. Having said that, the camera is apparently far better, it can shoot HD video, it uses the same microprocessor as the iPad, so it is going to be faster and more powerful and it goes on sale on about 14 October 2011.
It would obviously be for sale in South Africa sometime thereafter, but this is not the iPhone 5 that people were expecting, and while it is still better than any other phone on the market, the share price took a bit of a dip when it was announced. I think that is a bit cynical, because Apple only has 5% of the world phone market at the moment, and that is a figure that can only improve.

Whilst the IPhone may probably be the most popular and most wanted smart phone, it is as Cherise says not the most affordable handset on the market. I would most definitely want to add an IPhone to my list of handsets ever owned, but cannot justify paying that price for a phone. So I will stick to my BlackBerry Curve, it has done the job so far.

I think I Phone is busy taking over and that it is an awesome device. I also agree with Cherise, the I Phone is very expensive and when you take it our on contract or do an upgrade you have to wait for about 3 months before receiving you phone. That is a huge problem they need to sort our before making the phone available on contract's.

I must say, once an iPhone, always an iPhone. I am really tempted to rather wait another 6 -12 months and get the iPhone 5. The Blackberry problem just showed what they can get up to.
