This is a website that a lot of attorney golfers would probably look at on the first day of every month or soon thereafter. Every golfer’s handicap is the basis for scoring in all competitions, and on the first of the month, those handicaps are recalculated.
The website www.handicaps.co.za is the place to get that handicap, although I am somewhat surprised that they have not turned it into more of a commercial enterprise with auto e-mails encouraging you to log in and the like, because it could be a fairly decent business with the number of golfers in South Africa. There are a number of notifications on the website as to proposed changes with the handicap system – some of which makes sense, and no doubt we will be hearing about those decisions.
For example, at the moment, even if you are playing badly, you can only drop one shot per month on your handicap and they propose to eliminate that. That would make sense to me but I would still like to see some sort of limit as to how many shots you dropped, because otherwise you can have a good golfer with 20 scores in one month and automatically dropping his handicap from say 5 to 15 just before the club championships, so I would be in favour, for example, of a maximum drop of no more than 3 shots a month.

i think that the there's only one pure way of playing the game and that is of scratch, unfortunately it not possible due to the difficulty of the the game, if you play any other sport you just except the fact that you are a less talented or skilled player. In golf there is an equalizer called a handicap now a lot of golfers take advantage of this system, instead of enjoying the game they make winning the enjoyment, shame on them!!!

Yes, also surprised at the amount of advertising. Thought the website would do more to encourage a lot more advertising. Perhaps they are not putting it out there to the business, to advertise, with them. The amount of exposure your business could obtain its fur nominal. I would also have to agree with the system, of maximum limitations on shots a month. However, having said that, I have not had a chance to play in a while and played once in the past 3 months and shot my handicap. More than likely because of talent. But don’t think others are all that lucky. So it’s a bit of both worlds for the average and talented golfer. The changes have made progress, however you do get golfers like the guys from Durban Deep Country club whom will still over inflate their scores in order to just win. In my opinion in order to win a prize or claim a prize, at any club you should hand in your handicap card and score card to match referee whom will enter your score onto the system as well as check your score card. I do know that you now have to swipe your card at Country Club JHB when you pay in order to open the round, failure to enter a score as per the handicap system, will result in a penalty score, but as mentioned it’s not enough.
