I see that the State President has said that you can tweet any problems to him on his Twitter account @SAPresident or via e-mail to [email protected]. I think it is great that we are encouraged to come forward like that and obviously it encourages a democracy and gives us all the chance to vent our frustrations or anger or propose an idea.
I think sometimes people complain and protest a little bit too much, because often they complain that something is never being fixed, for example when they have never written to somebody and told them it is out of order. I am quite sure if you are driving along the road, on the way to Hartbeespoort dam, and the robots were out of order, that each person thinks it is unacceptable that it is not fixed – but how many people go through the effort of finding out which municipality is in charge of that area, and then advising them of it? If they are not told about it, they cannot be expected to automatically and instantly know and to fix it immediately. Making things better in our country, or indeed in your own company, starts with raising the problems and letting people know about them and thereafter tackling them.

I think that it is purely a publicity stunt to make citizens believe that they are being heard. Let's face it, our president should be a busy man and I don't see how he would be involved in this at all.

It's more of a cute idea that probably will not work. Who honestly has the time to sit and do this and go through every queriy, and make sure to get to all of them etc. And as Bernie said, if he does have the time to do this, then wow, what is he actually doing for our country!

I believe this a great idea. It does not neccessarily mean that he will be able to sort out everybodys' problems. Priority will be given to the ones that need immediate attention.
During the state of the Nation address, i remember he read and e-mail from Mr mali who does not qualify for an RDP house on the other hand banks find him a risk to qualify for a bond. He is making an effort.

This is a good suggestion by them, but obviously he wont sit and read each and every email and then respond on it. He is way too busy travelling the world and fixing other countries problems, Im sure the will be thousands of emails a day and then Im not even talking about the tweets. Maybe this could work.
Iheard he read out a email that was sent to him by one of the RSA Citizens when he did the speach the other day, Im two minded about this

I agree with Bernadette. It is good that we can make contact with our president, but they can't even solve issues which they are already aware of, how would this make a difference? He'll get someone else to read and reply, but who's to say that they really care?

If he has time to sit and tweet then I am really worried about this country.

I agree, sometimes we are good at critisizing and not at solutions. I strongly believe that to be an up standing citizen we have to start with ourselves as people and bring that to our surroundings. Its great that we can communicate with our president voicing our issues but then again we dont have any garuntee that it is being attended too.

This is a great idea. I have to agree that one can not know there is a problem if it is not brought up.
I am sure this will help going foward as a country for any other problems that really concern people- that most of the time the president is unaware of.
