MWeb advertise saying, “Is your fast Internet slower than it should be? Switch to MWeb”
The advert goes on to say that some Internet service providers throttle their uncapped ADSL which means you get a slow and frustrating Internet experience and that MWeb does not do that. I must say that as an MWeb customer, I have been somewhat frustrated that when I took one of their uncapped products, they did start throttling various aspects of the service and their sales representatives were very quick to tell me that I needed a fancier package and that if I did not want the Internet slowed down, I needed to upgrade to a package at double the cost – which I was eventually forced to do. So, I am not quite sure why they are knocking their competitors, because I am sure I am not the only client who had that experience and it was only last week that we sent them an indication as to how slow our Internet was running at the office and asked them to get back to us!

Download Cyber Ghost, it will change your ip address and then nobody can track what you are downloading or how much. The only draw back is you can only stay online for three hours with a free dual session at a time. The advantage is you are inviseable on the internet for this period with full speed download speed all the time.

I chnaged from a 384 Telkom capped line to MWEB's 1M uncapped service. At first login and surf the speed difference was great but after some downloads the service reduced the transfer speed to a trickle - what a let down! I am now searching for an alternative service provider just three days later! Any suggestions?

Overall, Internet providers in SA leave much to be desired. People all over the world download music and movies via Internet, while here we stick to the old-fashioned ways. Hopefully it will get better in a few years' time.

They all beat around the bush, and they know that the average person will take their word for it. We see only what we want to see. Take the Santam ad for instance where the bartender's outfit changes four times - one never notices it the first time. They also know that you signed a contract with them, and unless you want to pay an arm and a leg to cancel their product, you are stuck with them.

All of them will say "we are the best, so change to us". I guess that's how most of the pay off lines mean at the old end, only to find that you come across the same problems as your previous service provider

as much as i hate telkom, i have their adsl package. reasonable pricing, can top up towards the end of the month, and their 1 gig line seems to actually work at approx 1 gig!!! from the initial telephonic enquiry to line installation and up and running took about a week or so...

We have uncapped at home. We use Afrihost as our internet provider and I must say I am impressed with their services. Although we do get throttled during the week days, nights and weekends the internet is fast and efficient.

I agree with Robyn, all internet providers throttle their uncapped ADSL at some point. Also, you cannot trust anyone selling a product to you, you never know when they actually want to help you or just sell the product to earn money(commission) which is for their benefit and not ours. I honestly think that people need to do their own research on the products they want to buy. They will get a better perspective of the quality, meaning the number of people giving good comments on the internet about that product you are interested in as well as the popularity. Never rely on what service providers tell you.

All the internet providers try to be the top sellers but all of them have the same black hole we fall in, slow internet.

I was with Mweb but then changed to another service provider because I experienced the same problem with Mweb and I was not going to upgrade my package just because they say so and they did not explain to me in the begining when I asked 'Is this a fast package?' and they said 'yes, this is not a slow package...' I was not impressed after noticing how slow my package was but instead I changed to another service provider which I am really happy about.

In my own experience, all Internet providers throttle their uncapped ADSL. Especially when you reach a certain amount of data usage.
