It is great to see the widening of the lanes at the intersection of William Nicol and Main, and in particular the continued widening of William Nicol Drive. The road carries a tremendous amount of traffic to what is the north of Johannesburg, and there needs to be continued progress in terms of widening these roads, creating additional lanes and helping put in the transport infrastructure to allow the economy to grow. Most of the wealth of the country is generated within the Gauteng region that has the largest workforce and the roads obviously need to be able to transport people more efficiently to and from work as well as goods and service providers.

Our roads are in very bad conditions, and what gets to me is that on the N1 we have to pay for toll gates but then there is no lights for most of the road only at the toll gates itself.

That sied of the world is always so busy. Take Fourways as an example. I dread having to take the William Nicol Dr offramp at anytime during the day on the weekend. It is always so busy.
Sure they have now widened the offramps to like 3 or 4 lanes but the traffic is so terrible and the intersection once you get to the top is so confusing, it's like an "X" shape.
More confusing though is the William Nicol and Main intersection. Maybe it's just because I dont go there that often.

With the amount of money we pay in taxes and tolls, fuel, etc i think our roads are still in bad, bad need of repair. I am frustrated that I often, on my way home, have to drive onto the wrong side of the road to avoid potholes that have been growing daily. Lets not only widen roads, lets maintain them as a whole and there will be less congestion because people will be able to use well kept back roads as well.

I agree with Robyn. The N12 between Eastgate and Snake Road, and even driving from Jet Park to Bedfordview, is ridiculously dangerous. They have been "working" on that road for probably 5 years, but it is still in a horrible state. And then they wonder why there are so many accidents on that road. I have learned to only believe something once I can see it has been done, and finished.

It's all good and well that they're finishing a task for a change. Let's take the N12 for example. How long have they been busy there? And what progress has been made? That highway is so dangerous, I hate driving there.

I have to agree with Simone - there are so many roads that are in poor condition and can just not handle the load of people who use these roads on a daily basis . there are a few more roads that I think they need to consider widening as it has become impossible to be early for work if you not leaving at the crack of dawn.
and with more and more people getting cars it is only getting worse.

This is good news to the road users and also to the companies.

I have to say that the roads in JHB are terrible! I've always heard how bad it was but it only hit me once I moved here. Potholes EVERYWHERE, traffic all over, every twenty meters there's another speedbump and the robots definitely are not waterproof. Traffic is so much better in CT, and the driver's aren't as bad either :P *joookes*
