After a lot of discussion, with many people who have taken their profiles off Facebook, I decided to take mine off. It is not really a statement, and the purpose of putting this on my blog is not to make any statement either. It is simply for those who were listed as a friend of mine on Facebook to be made aware that I have not in fact blocked them from my profile, or set the privacy settings so they cannot see it anymore, I am simply no longer on Facebook!
I must be honest and say that the immediate reaction is one of a little bit of relief, because I don’t have to go and check now whether there is some message waiting for me from somebody else that I met 20 years ago and quite frankly I have no regrets about no longer being on Facebook. If I was single and young, no doubt I would still be there but I must say that I really see very little of substance happening there, and a friend of mine who is at another law firm advises me that the only thing their staff members do is to play farming games on Facebook most of the time. It does not seem, apart from the games, that people use it as much for actual communication or discussion of issues of the day.

I have to agree with everyone. Facebook can be nice if it is use for the correct purpose. All the fake profiles and updates can irritate one. My profile is probably still active for one reason - Curiosity. I love watching everyones photos and updates but would bearly put something up myself

Facebook is really getting more and more boring honestly, the people's update is getting more less anyway. At the rate it's going, I think they might come up with something better than Facebook soon.

Facebook is fun because it keeps you in touch with people that you have not seen for years.

Facebook is nice when it is used for the actual purpose of it. Some people just irritate me, and I have deleted a girl I was in school with, because she kept stating the obvious on a Thursday - that tomorrow is Friday. :-)

I took my profile off facebook 2 years ago and have never missed it. My whole family is on facebook and they constantly load pictures of family gatherings and all on there and keep on trying their best to get me to join facebook again, I am just not interested. I do not have the time and definitely do not want to make time to log onto to facebook. I also heard that people get divorced because of facebook.

I was never a fan. It takes forever and I am impatient. I've noticed some time ago already that people are using fb less and less - and as Robyn stated, one simple comment from someone you used to know ages ago could result in unnecessary conflict

I've been off Facebook for quite some time now. It really does just cause drama and drama that no one needs in their life. Complicating things with old flames wanting to reunite etc. No thank you. Plus I've always hated those stupid games. I started deleted friends off my contact list who sent me invites to those games. Pfft.

I must be honest, when I got my blackberry, facebook became a thing of the past. With bbm, etc, one has ones friends at your finger tips. It shows how easily technology is replaced. When facebook first came out, it was the best thing since sliced bread, now facebook - who cares.

It guess it depend on the person. Not everyone sits and plays games. Some people do chat on facebook as that is the only means of communication.

Facebook is faded, they try keep it fresh but really its rather boring. Only time it interests me is when I honestly want to find out more about a person seen that facebook allows that and tells alot about another person. I must be honest I too am thinking of closing my account - just causes drama and scandel and like me people check out my facebook to get more insight on my life. Lame but true :-)

I must say that I have deactivated a number of times because i simply was bored and also found no reason what so ever to have the account.
I keep mine now to know when certain events are and to communicate with my family who are far. other than that I must say facebook is dieing down.

Personally I sometimes take months before I can read or respond to any messages on facebook as I just don't have the time. But facebook can be a nice tool to have if managed responsibly.
