Weight loss January

January has always been the best month for me for weight loss, and I guess for most people with New Year resolutions it is probably also true. It has nothing to do with a New Year resolution for me but I just find that when there is less pressure at work and the days are longer, I get to do more exercise.

Sadly, the biggest key to weight loss, and I lost 4 kilograms in January, is really a reduced diet. All the exercise in the world will not help if you are overeating. The first key, and I am surrounded by a number of people at work who tell me that they eat healthily, are drinking Coca Cola, eating chips and chocolates, is to get rid of sugar and after that, certainly to reduce the carbohydrates in your diet. The truth is weight loss is easy – if you are prepared to do the hard work – and that is exactly what makes it so hard!

I never worry about diets. The only carrots that interest me are the number you get in a diamond.

Nothing good comes easy; no pain no gain, sweat it, work and you will be rewarded. Our daily life is filled with examples of the equation "effort = results". Every one of us wants to look our best and we look our best when we enjoy a healthy, strong body. Sadly, not many of us are willing to leave the couch and burn up those fats that weigh us down

January and February are great for business for gym owners and personal trainers. The most common mistakes I see every single day in the gym are trainers using the same exact workout for every single client they have. What happened to the personal in "personal training?" No two people are the same. Every client should have a unique training program specifically designed for them!

It's not the number of calories that matters, it's the quality of food you are eating and the "metabolic enhancing" effect on your body.

Well done to all of you who lost weight during festive. I managed to pick up 5kg's! Are you all telling the truth or were you all broke and bored exercising in the holidays?

You cannot be tempted by what is NOT there. If you know a food is a trigger food for you, then, do not bring it into the house. Reserve it for the times you really want it and then, go out and buy a single serving.

I look so good because I eat so good, think it will be a bit hard to lose weight and get motivated, not even December holidays gets me going to lose weight.

Fat might be your mom’s fault. A growing body of science suggests that sugary and fatty foods consumed even before you’re born can mess with your weight.

My diet usually consists out of water and sweets. If I cut sugar out of my diet, I get depressed!!

I have always hated the idea of dieting because I have a weakness for junk food. Lately I have really reduced my in-take though. I agree with everything David said. I think it's really the bread, butter, potatoes, rice and chips though. I cut those out and I too have lost kgs this month =)

I must confess, I have absolutely no discipline when it come to diets. I just love KFC breakfast, dark chocolates and Mac Donald cheese burgers way too much!

WEIGHT LOSS IS EASY!!! and so is staying in shape…
a couple of basic principles:

Aerobic exercise in the morning
30 mins of exercise will speed up your metabolism, the effect works all day. NB to remember, aerobic exercise will not change your shape, only make the same shape a smaller size.

Weight training in the evening
Your body rebuilds the muscles damaged by weight training while you sleep.

Not all carbs are not bad
Just eat them in the morning, so your body has a chance to use the carbs during the course of the day.
NB to remember: COMPLEX carbs are GOOD (oats, brown rice, potatos etc), SIMPLE carbs are BAD (breads, soft drinks, sugar etc)

Eat more meals of smaller size during the course of the day.
When you eat regularly your body does not need to store energy (as fat), but can send the energy (as glycogen) directly to the muscles to be used . You will thus feel better, feel fuller, have more energy and not feel the urge to snack on rubbish during the course of the day.

Eat proper food!!!
lean meat prepared healthily: chicken breasts, fish, steak. No more KFC or Mc D's.
Eat fresh veggies, not the frozen stuff. Steam your veggies – boil them and the vitamins/minerals go out with the water.
Steamed brown rice instead of processed white rice.
Baked potatoes instead of fried.
STAY AWAY FROM FAST FOODS and ALL PROCESSED FOODS.

Tracey, the author if “The Swing!”, lost 120 pounds through kettlebell exercises! For those of you reading the blog, do yourself a favour and have a look at Tracey’s photos and read her blog.

Tracey is internationally known as the kettlebell “swing queen” . Her powerful transformation with the kettlebell (and diet) has now spilled out into the most widely distributed kettlebell book ever published. I am of the opinion that “The Swing!” is a must read for everybody, from overweight and dull – to chiseled, fit, and almost super humanly strong and conditioned.

Brenda hit the nail on the head. Also, people who think that not eating is the best for losing weight, are under the wrong impression. It works for a while, but then when you do eat your body holds on to everything to keep your body operating. I think blood diets are excellent, but it is just so expensive, and not possible for the average person to do. Not everyone in your home has the same "needs", so who do you cook for? It is said that you must eat 5 portions a day to maintain a good weight, obviously with exercise.

Just as a note, people need to realize with a diet if you go on a diet that's what you have to keep doing for the rest of your life. It isn't a tempory thing. A lady I know went on this diet and lost I think it was 45 to 50kgs and then stopped the diet and went back to normal so did her jeans size go back to normal. So I eat what I want when I want rather than worry because I know I can't stay on a diet EVER. (Best Exercise EVER is dancing quickest yet funniest way to lose weight)

My weakness is chips and that is something I tend to always have when im at work or miss a meal. I agree that if you want results you have to cut out sugar and carbs.

I loose really quickly and gain just as fast. The idea is to find a balance and stick to that eating habit.

I lost 3kg in January. Not sure how though but I'm keeping it off, which is great. Now all I need to do is the exercise. I'm so lazy.

I completely agree. Cutting sugar out and eating less carbohydrates has also worked the best for me to loose weight even with an underactive thyroid.

Weight loss is something that has a lot to do with will power! If you really want to lose weight, you will do whatever it takes to ensure that you reach your goal.

To lose weight doesn't mean you have to stop eating, and starve yourself. You can still eat whatever you want, but within reason! Measure your portions correctly and don't eat huge amounts of food.

Another good way to keep the weight down is to not eat heavily after 3pm. Many people eat late at night and this causes your digestive system to work much slower as you are now relaxed, whereas if you eat your biggest meals before 3pm, your body will have enough time to digest your food properly.

Bottom line is, watch how much you eat and when you eat and you will be able to maintain a good body weight.

Oh, and another thing - if stress causes weight loss I would be a supermodel. It has the "other" effect on me

Julie  said:

Blood-type diets work best. Your life is in the blood - if you look after your blood you will be healthy and keep weight down. Simple things you need to apply and simple things you need to stay away from - easiest way to start is to simply don't eat carbs with protein and reduce sugar intake and drink more water.

These are guidelines people - NO, I am not the perfect example :-) But will be starting again soon.... Check this space - lol

Well I really don't know how I loss 7kgs durging January 2013 but whatever I did I hope to keep it up lol. I personally think it's because of my son keeping me on my toes.

Angelique  said:

It is really hard to cut out sugars but I guess reducing your intake can certainly help. You really just need to be driven, motivated and once you start you have to keep going! I think bread is my biggest weakness! So I switched to brown bread... Think of all your weaknesses and decide how you can cut down or replace it with something similar thats less 'harming'.
