I love to think about the adverts for Johannesburg being a world class city, after whenever it has rained. The city comes to a standstill, half of the traffic lights don’t work, and a 45 minute journey becomes a 1 hour 45 minute journey. I wonder if that is part of being a world class city? The worst part is that after it has rained the entire Sunday, and most of the traffic lights had been out from Sunday morning, that the Municipality cannot get staff to the affected intersections, and get those robots fixed by Monday morning, let alone Monday afternoon. Surely, one of the first points in building a world class city is to make sure that your transport systems work, and that people can get to work in a reasonable amount of time with a minimum of inconvenience and faulty infrastructure? Until we get things like that right, we can only be a third rate city.

I do not agree with this at all!! You can not even drive with your window down because you will either be hi-jacked or someone will stick there head in your car and try to sell you something. Metro Police that are suppose to keep the roads safe and traffic flowing are the danger of the roads!! There is not one wall that has not been sprayed on on the route I travel to work. I am really ashamed of our city...

The difference between one robot being out on my journey in the morning is an hour's worth of driving. So instead of an hour I sit for two. And most of the issues are carried over from Saturday / Sunday into the work week. Do they not have emergency personnel?

Lol @David, lovely rhyme! My blood boils when i sit in traffic at a broken robot. At least there are worse cities like Rio and Mumbai when it comes to traffic and luckily i am not born in Afganistan when i would have been uneducated old granny by now if not dead from childbearing or beaten to death by a cruel husband. At least we are a free nation here !

It would be nice if half the country didn't buy their drivers licences thus resulting the a hoard of idiots who don't actually know how to drive, let alone count to the 4 required in the 4 way stop.

It's sad how when the traffic lights are out, there aren't even points-men to direct the traffic - and it's always the areas with the most traffic! I don't understand why it has to be so difficult sorting things out...

It is extremely disappointing how neglected our city is when it comes to things like this. In a first world city, this would not be tolerated at all and in fact, probably would not ever happen. Our government will most likely pull the e-toll card on this one and say that those funds also cater for the up-keep of traffic lights etc. We have so much to be thankful for living in JHB but this is most certainly a down point!

A third rate city undoubtedly. At one stage peoples response to poor management and upkeep of this country as being a joke. It has moved way beyond that already, its a very serious issue

Who on earth will want to work on a Sunday. Our municipalities these days have the "it can wait" attitude, while motorists are becoming more and more irritated and frustrated on the roads. We don't even have the luxury of being able to call the municipalities etc. as when we do call, the number is either busy or it does not get answer.
Another thing..... It is bad enough that you sit for hours on end in traffic due to robots being out of order, but then you still get the inconsiderate drivers (i'm sure we can all guess who) who have no regard to "RULES OF THE ROAD" and just make their way onto the oncoming traffic's lane, causing the motorists to have to move out the way of their own lanes. No wonder we have a road rage problem in this country.

I agree, the difference between a first rated city and third rated city, is the transportation system. The infrastructure in a first rated country is incredible and runs exactly on time, you never end up waiting for the bus, train ect to arrive, therefore the chances of being late for work and meetings is kept to the minimal. I do have to say that the Gautrain is an improvement, but we have a far way to go in terms of our infrastructure before we become a first rated city.

it really is unacceptable that the lights should be out as long as they are , some of the lights on the way to springs are still out and the traffic is really backed up it would be nice if the lights in Johannesburg would be fixed instead of them commenting on the radio

That is typical South Africa. A person cant expect things to get better or to be fixed in time in our country.

And yet the president considers us a third world country that can pay E-toll and disses Malwe's road infrastucture. Even if we have tar roads, whats the good if they dont move at all? Then I would rather use a dirt road and as it might move faster.

The worst of it all is that robots that were out from this weekend is still out today... Very annoying.
