Winter Olympics in Russia

The Winter Olympics are under way, and it is something that I actually watch quite bit of – perhaps as much as the Summer Olympics.   I find the contrast to every other sport quite amazing, and there are quite a lot of sports that involve either sheer strength such as the speed skating or artistry such as ice skating, not to mention young guys doing their snowboarding.

These events certainly seem to be far more dangerous than the Summer Olympics in terms of the high speeds generated in some of the events and if nothing else, the Winter Olympics makes a huge contrast to anything else one gets to see on television.  It was quite surprising that we never sent a single athlete to the Winter Olympics, not in one event at all, and what is more our Olympic Committee forgot to apply for accreditation for tickets so that it became impossible for any South African who has an interest in the Winter Olympics to get packages via South African travel agents.  All the more reason for those who do enjoy watching it to enjoy it on television!

That is actually very bad, but I really do enjoy the Olympics even though I don't have that much time to watch.

I am a fan of the Winter Olympics. The cross country skiing / shooting event is brilliant. All that physical exertion and then precision shooting is a combination of skills that blows the mind.

I really enjoy watching sports specially the Olympics it motivates me to train harder and discipline myself more during my exercise.
If I had more time on my hands I would certainly watch both. But time is limited. Id much more rather prefer the summer Olympics.

I don't go out of my way to watch the Winter Olympics but every now and then I do watch. I don't have a favourite sport though... I do enjoy the Winter Olympics because of it being so different but it is also sad that SA can't really participate.

I had no idea it had even started watching sport to me is pointless I don't even watch rugby or football, and even if I did I think the Olympics would be at the bottom of my list of sport to watch

I love watching sports but winter Olympics is not really on top of the list. It is sad though that not a single athlete was sent to the Olympics.

What makes me sad about SA (another thing) is the complete lack of discipline people have here. South Africans are not prepared to invest the 8 hours a day from the age of 2 years that sports like figure skating demand. No one here invests money or energy into these types of sports, only cricket, rugby and a little bit of swimming, and golf (which you do not even have to be in shape for!) I love to snow ski so I have really enjoyed these events. It is the most exotic sports to watch being a South African, because we do not see or experience these sports here.

I prefer not to watch television and they don't broadcast any of the Olympics on the radio, only on the news... so i don't really follow it. It is sad though that South Africans do not even have a chance to compete. Someone from here might have a major talent for something in the winter Olympics and now that gets wasted...

I think figure skating is very elegant, but difficult. I don't think I will ever try it.

I really prefer the winter Olympics compare to the summer Olympics. I can really appreciate the skill of the people taking part in the items.

The Figure Skating is by far the most intriguing event for me. So elegant, yet powerful at the same time.

I must admit that i do not watch either. So do not klnow much about it. What i have heard is that it did not get off to a good start and that was it. If there are any South African's - I wish them all the best
