We are going to be looking at another increase in the petrol price in March. Possibly in April too, because during the Minister of Finance’s budget speech, 20 cents a litre was added onto the petrol price during the speech which are effective from 2 April. The RAF will get 8 cents of that and another 12 cents goes to general tax.
The majority of the increase now is going to be as a result of the currency fluctuation as the international price of fuel has not actually gone up very much. We are fortunate that the currency has shown some strength in the last week or so and if that continues, the increase may not be as high as it is currently projected to be at 34c for 95 petrol ULP. You can always find the estimated petrol increase at www.cef.org.za/images/petrolprice/daily.pdf. At the current Gauteng pump price of R13,96 for 95 unleaded, we would be looking at a price going over R14,00 for the first time. We will all certainly have to hope the rand strengthens over the next few months.

It's terrible thinking that a litre of petrol is more expensive than a litre of coke

We should all be used to hearing about petrol increase because to me it seems weekly. So nothing is a shocker anymore. And like usual everything else will go up.

this is so pathetic. it affects not only private transport users but public transport too. i use public transport to get to work and when the petrol price increases, so does taxi fare, and i already spend R1000 every month on transport fare. this is the death of us all!

I actually can't believe it, lets all buy bicycles so we don't have to give up either our home or food.

A person can't keep track of the petrol increases any more. Going on like this a person wonder if it really is worth buying a car because you spend more on petrol than the actual car. I really hoped that this year will be good but so far there has just been bad news everywhere.

Really grateful I moved closer to work when I did! Hopefully the public transport system starts to improve soon/ cheaper fuel alternatives are invented. I guess these are all wild dreams though!

Some or other genius should come up with a way to change dirty water into a means to run a vehicle, or better yet, just develop car engines that they are able to run on water.

I think bring on the electrical driven vehicles. Don't think they can develop those fast enough.

Stephanie don't give them any idea's! A new government please! Less crime and a better public transport system is in order! A public transport system, that is, for everyone not just the poor that live in the 'hood'. No use in me complaining about this petrol price any longer!

I hate hearing about the petrol increasing. Its so depressing. Sooner or later some of us are not going to be able to provide for our families or even have any money left because we have to pay for petrol instead. As if things are not bad enough as it is already now they have to make things more difficult for some of us. It is really ridiculous!!!

The petrol price will always just get higher, so it doesn't even help to moan about it. We all need to get to work and petrol is unfortunately part of the package.

That's disappointing. I think Jet Fuel is probably cheaper these days. Probably time to move closer to work and buy a bicycle. sigh...

It's pathetic! I don't know how we are suppose to survive, we are working to pay gas not to eat and provide for our children. If it's R13.96 now we might pay R20.00 a liter by the end of 2014!
