The 2014 World Cup is starting and one can imagine the excitement in Brazil. I was in London for the London Olympics and like all of you I was in South Africa for the World Cup in 2010. The one thing that all these events seem to have in common is that the people of the country, who are either apathetic or are negative towards the event, get very excited and involved once it actually starts happening. One can only imagine the excitement and the vibe in Brazil. South Africa was a tremendously exciting place for those 3 or 4 weeks four years ago, and I would like to hear your predictions as to whether this event is going to be a huge success or not, and in particular which team you are supporting – always made a lot easier by the fact that, it appears unless South Africa hosts a World Cup, we don’t even qualify!

I have always been a proud supporter of Brazil. I miss the old team and the old players like Ronaldinho, Cafu and Ronaldo who won the Golden Boot award in the 2006 World Cup. But I think that this World Cup is going to put some of the spectators on the edge of their seats. The Pools are tough this year and there are some intense matches coming up, like Spain and Netherlands (the two teams who battled it out in the 2010 World Cup ), and then there is also Portugal VS Germany, and many more exciting matches. Well I am excited to see who will rise and the end of the Cup!

Soccer is not a sport that I find much interest in. Give me a braai, good company and a rugby game, and you have my vote. But, there is just just something about a world cup that brings so much excitement to many people, that you cannot help but feel drawn into the event. The 2010 world cup in South Africa got me watching a soccer game everyday, which in itself is huge.
I don't think I will get around to watching any games during this world cup, but I do know that social media will keep me well update and although it might seem odd considering I wont be watching any games, I will be rooting for Germany!

I hope Spain takes it again this year! It could be Italy or Germany though... I don't think I will watch every match or even half of them. I will watch the good ones though ;) If not Spain, I hope it's Italy!

Brazil, Spain, Germany, Italy. One of those four I think will win. Not much of a soccer fan but the world cup is always festive, just wish the games were a bit shorter.

I am beyond excited about the Fifa world cup in Brazil. To such an extent that we had a pre-world-cup warm up party on Sunday and watched the highlights of previous world cups.
I would have loved to have actually gone to Brazil but as they do with all events, they have increased the price of everything and it just wasn't financially viable in the end.
My usual teams that I support namely Ireland and South Africa are not even playing this year!
I thought I might support the hosting country but after watching some warm up games, I think Japan is surprisingly looking quite strong this year and its always nice to support the underdog, I think.

I am extremely excited that soccer World cup is here just 1 day to go, and how Brazil is excited I can not even imagine, I worked with Brazilian people before and the way this people love their soccer and leave every day just to watch and follow up different games and play - I think there is no nation in the world who can be the strong fan of the game. I really hope Brazil will win this world cup, even Spain took first place in 2010 and Germany quit strong in their soccer as well.

I am extremely excited that it is that time again! Spain are my team and hoping that they will do well and progress to the final stages. Brazil are at a major advantage and I am sure it would be nice for their country if they took the title. The world cup feeling brings back a lot of pleasant memories from 4 years ago. We can only hope that one day, we will have the honour of hosting it again.

It is amazing how, every four years, people around the world would be glued to their tv's to watch football whether they are fans or not. I am one of those people. Not a huge fan, but come World Cup you cannot help but be infected by the excitement that surrounds it.

I am supporting Germany and I would have loved to be in Brazil for this. I think the best energy in a country comes when there is a major sporting event being hosted by that country and if you holiday there then then your holiday can only be that bit more happy and full of positive energy!

I think the event is going to be a huge success. If I look back at the 2010 world cup we hosted even people who were not into soccer pulled together for this event to share in its excitement. My money is on Spain.

I was one of those who had said that I would save up for 4 years so that I could go to the Brazil World Cup and be part of the amazing and exciting experience with the Brazilians. . . . That plan did not turn out as planned because look where i am now. But I am excited to see how the turn out of the games will be and who will end up with the cup :) I can't wait to see the opening of the World Cup too actually :) May the Best Team Win!!!

The people in Brazil will probably go all out with the world cup, i can just imagine all the excitement. I don't know much of soccer but i think it will be a success, because soccer in other countries are a much more higher priority, than in South Africa... May the best team win!

If the top four teams (Brazil, Spain, Germany and Argentina) win their respective groups, Spain would be on Argentina's side of the bracket. That's a good matchup if it came to fruition due to La Furia Roja's advantage in the midfield, which means another final appearance could very well be in the cards.
