Wi-Fi and TV in planes

As anybody who sits and taps away on their phone during a long boring meeting will know, having access to Wi-Fi and cellular data can make anything more pleasurable, and so it is with plane trips as well.  It is quite common now in America for you to be able to access, while flying, live television channels so you can keep following the sports event that you are watching live while travelling, and at the same time have Wi-Fi access on your phone or laptop and be able to deal with your e-mails there and then.  In fact, the blog that I wrote predicting that the Springboks would end the unbeaten run of the All Blacks, which indeed they did, was written and posted to my blog at 35,000 ft above America and it really was somewhat surreal for me, even if Americans on most domestic flights are used to that.  The planes have not been adapted yet so that you can do that on international flights, but that is surely only a matter of time and it would be particularly exciting especially for the longer flights.  Our technological world gets faster, smarter and more connected every year, and there is no reason why, when one is on a lengthy 12 hour flight, one should not be able to take advantage and attempt to reply to your e-mails while still conducting business.

For the last 10 years flying on the planes for 14-16 hours I really founded very boring to be on the plane, and having now available Wi-Fi - just wonderful, browsing on the phone or tablet - time flies quick.

I heard an advertisement on the radio of Mango airlines, they offer free Wi-Fi on board. I think its great! Now we need to prepare for a lot of aeroplane selfies! :)

I love flying especially long flights. Don't really need time to go by at all. I'm either lost in my own thoughts, reading a book or if I feel like watching a movie that's available on the plane then I do that. It's great to have the option of WiFi if needed, technology makes life so much easier, I'm thinking back to the time of telegrams and cannot imagine life without cell phones anymore

I could just be alone with my thoughts on a long flight or alternatively meeting new people. Isn't it about having a break and a break from technology? But I agree having technology while on a flight would be awesome if you are a businessman. I think if I was on a business trip it would be a different story, because I don't go ten minutes without checking my email. But for a holiday, a break from technology and especially social networking would be great!

I like the idea of the wifi and live tv.. But these days everything is made so everything is just to easy.. i like to keep it old school and wait to do something.. The technology also makes us lazy and forget what life is about.. Wish i was born in the "voortrekker Jare" where your boyfriend walked to your house and threw stones at your window to let you know he is there, now with selfphones it is like come out. LOL

Gone are the days of missing your team play a big game because you're stuck on a flight. This has my vote just because you are not out of touch.

I have to agree with Caron.

Although the sports will probably be wasted on me.

Technology you beauty. This is going to make traveling that much quicker and can attend to e-mails and work during long flights, time well spent. Live television, I'm impressed.

This is fantastic. I hope that all flights offer this soon. I would love to be on a flight and not miss a live football game and be able to keep in contact with friends and family over facebook etc. whilst on a flight. I think this will make flights, especially the long ones, a lot more enjoyable. There are only so many movies you want to watch on a 12 hour flight before you wish you had something else to occupy your time.
