This is the latest home entertainment, with the box from Altech. I see they have spent quite a bit of money promoting it with television adverts as well as full page adverts in the newspapers, but I think it is going to be a product which is going to struggle to take off. Most of us already have DSTV and together with Box Office, pretty much have all the options you could possibly want. The one good thing that the Altech Node does have is that it enables you to have video cameras linked at home and then you could monitor what is going on at your house, not only when you are there but also when you are away. I struggle to see how Altech Node is going to recover their advertising and how this product is going to take off in South Africa, bearing in mind that those that do have fast Internet and unlimited Internet, if they are not downloading movies and programmes immediately, are probably watching TV by Apple TV, as a few of my friends are, or alternatively have used a VPN, at a cost of less than R100,00 a month, to then join Netflix for another R100,00 a month and be able to download all the movies and TV programmes direct from America. However, I may well be wrong, so I would like to ask any of you who heard about the Altech Node and are seriously considering getting it or know of somebody who has got the product and is using it.

I haven't heard of this one yet neither saw the ads.... but then again id i have to chose it will most certainly be with DSTV...... They the best so far and more convenient and regular upgrades.

I haven't heard about this and do not know anyone that have one. Im not really interested, I think the only thing that will attract people to this is the cost, DSTV is just getting more and more expensive.

This advert is on every minute of the day, "There's no Place like Node" Sounds interesting, but not really something that interests me.

Definitely not interested in this. But i must agree with Sorea you pay so much for DSTV but there is hardly anything to really watch.

I know a friend who is looking to get this. But I think it is more from the point of view that he has an insatiable lust for any new gadget. I cannot see the necessity of this, because as you say, the DSTV explorer and box office already offers what we want.

I might have seen the ads, but did not really look to much into it. I know of nobody who has or will be getting it. However as you said, most already have the capacity and would most likely not get it for that reason alone.

I think cost factor and choice might swing people to buy this little device. I know that my family are constantly complaining that they have all the channels on DSTV, but that there is nothing to watch on TV.

I have also seen the advert on TV, and the advert is quite good, I must admit. But I have to agree that there is not much chance of this product making a huge success. There are just too many products out there and there is no doubt that Dstv will soon come up with something new anyway. Technology is advancing rapidly, so unless this product proves to be above the rest, there is no hope of its success. We also have the Dstv Explorer and that is more than enough for home entertainment and I certainly would not be interested in the Altech Node.

I have heard the radio ad for this Altech Node quite a bit recently. We have the DSTV explorer and it really does everything that you could possibly want so I cannot see this Node being a huge success however perhaps costs wise it may be cheaper and that may be it's success factor.
