Portable chargers

I have written before about my frustration with the battery life of most of today’s smart phones – the things that you can do with the phones all seem to exceed battery capabilities in terms of the advances of technology in both.  No sooner do the batteries get better, then the latest tricks that you are doing with your phone get more advanced.  I think Pokemon Go has probably seen to portable chargers selling in huge numbers.  The problem with many of them is that they are quite bulky, and some of the bulkiest ones can recharge your phone up to 10 times, but that involves lugging around a brick!

I have recently tried, after reading about it on a PC advice website, the Zendure second generation portable charger, which is one of the lighter models, but still recharges a phone at least twice.  I must say I think it is something very handy to have in your luggage, and I guess with the ladies it is far easier to have a device like that in your handbag.  They are well worth the money as an emergency back-up for your phone.

I think its a great idea because you always need to have your phone for something to get hold of someone or using google maps

Power banks are THE status quo. Who needs small "smart phones" these days when you can have a big power bank and a smart phone to lug around?

I think it is good to have and convenient when really needed but I do not have one as yet

The bulkiness is definitely worthy given the benefits of being able to charge the phone several times.

These are a great little invention and I always keep one on me for emergencies.

I don't make use of any portable chargers but my sister always carries one with her and is often charging her tablet/laptop or cell phone. I generally keep my phone on low power mode from the morning until I charge it at night and my phone has never died on me.

I still need to get myself one of these. Brilliant device! Especially for those load shedding days -_-

The problem for me with portable chargers is that it seems to make your battery weaker then charging it through a proper wall socket charger. We have a power bank which I must be honest seems to be more of a mission to keep charged in order to use it.

I would consider buying one like this too, my Tab always flat, and cell phone after a day too, nice to carry this charger in the hand bag and charge the device.

I would love a charger like this, it's much more convenient to take the charger with you everywhere you go.

I wonder when they going to launch that charger that, that student made. The one that can charge your phone fully in a few seconds. I guess they might not even do it as it could possibly damage your battery. But would be cool if it didn't. Because these portable chargers also need to be charged in order to use them. But they are nice to have especially on your very busy days.

I would just forget to charge the portable charger. I would rather just have a charger in the car if I really need it.

Can't speak for this specific brand but I just feel that portable chargers take forever to charge my phone and some of them (fake knock offs) actually damage your battery in the long run. However, I am still on the iphone 5s and I think it's true that one needs to change their phone every 2 years - I am blaming my phone on dying all the time to the fact that my phone is about 3 years old.

I actually recently bought a portable charger at Makro that is a little bigger than a lipstick. Its convinent and chargers up really quickly.

There is nothing more frustrating than having a flat phone battery. In our household there is always a fight for chargers. My two boys have their own tablets and have gone through more chargers than I have gone through phones! Chargers don't last with them around. I think maybe it will be a good idea to invest in a portable charger. At least my phone will be charged for a change!

The amount of things one carries around for one's phone, i.e. headphones, charger, cords to plug into your computer, etc, one of these days we are going to need handbags for our handbags. It really is quite annoying to have to lug so many little things around. If they can bring a pig back to life after being dead for an 1.5 hours, why cant they make a cell phone that charges itself when it reaches a certain percentage without having cables or portable charges.....just a thought.

Battery life on my phone definatly does not last,The longest my phone battery last is a day then in the evening i have to charge it again,Portable charges are a good idea I must say,I need to invest in a portable charger for emergencies as our phones always seem to die when we really in need of them.

Having a flat cellphone battery can become quite irritating and it always seems to be at its worst when an emergency arises. Having a decent backup charger is definitely worth the money spent, as it can get you out of a flat battery predicament when you need to get hold of someone urgently.

I usually make sure my phone is fully charged and if not I make sure to pack my charger or I just charge it in my car.
But for now my phone battery lasts me at least a day

It would be nice to have a portable charger, but why pay an extra amount on gadgets if you could have a port to charge it at work, with less costs on gadgets that are bound to break or not work efficiently after a few uses? Even with a portable charger, you'd have to at least charge it once or twice a day in any event

Lourien  said:

I have not ever thought of getting a portable charger as I normally have my charger handy and in my handbag and charge my phone before I go out. It is probably great to have when you are not able to charge your phone at all an I am sure there are people that rely on these portable chargers.

Nina  said:

I think it is a nice thing to have in your handbag just incase, but at this stage my battery lasts for the day. Obviously if you are someone that spend quite a lot of time on their phone it can probably be a livesaver.

It is a very handy thing to have i would say. I on the othe hand have my charger with me all the time, Does not mean i am able to charge same wherever i am though. So will possibly look at getting one at some point for convenience

I have to agree that Battery Life on our Cellphones today are terrible, I remember with the Old Cell Phones you can charge it the Sunday and it last the Whole Week. I have see the Portable Chargers but I don't think that I would buy one, because if I am at work a Charge my phone on the wall plug and if I'm at home I charge my phone on the wall plug, if we travelling I use the car Chargers. So I think I'm sorted.

There are a few handheld power-banks for sale - I would not be able to comment on the 'strength' thereof, but their accessibility has improved. They are even for sale at the Checkers pay-points!

Zindy  said:

Battery life is terrible with these new phones. All the background apps running really exhausts the battery. I had even went and bought a solar charger at a stage thinking that would do the trick perhaps the one I have is just a bad make but is very disappointing. Much prefer the powerbanks. Charge it for the night and use it twice before recharging.
