World Cup not run on African time

I found the FIFA statements that the World Cup will not be run on African time quite interesting. They said that people in South Africa need to learn to arrive at stadiums a little bit more than 30 minutes before a game and that they cannot sit 83 000 people and 53 heads of state if people arrive with 30 minutes to go. I am sure the bigger problem of course is with sitting the 53 heads of state than the 83 000 people, but it is true that we do have a tendency to enjoy arriving at the last minute, something I am also guilty of.

I think the excitement of going to a game, pushes or drives the fans to be there earlier. I went through to Soccer City on Friday, and you have no idea the energy there, we got there round about 12:00 and the place was packed full of supporters, from South Africans to Mexicans and of course any others that just wanted to be there. There were most likely maybe 100 not even that came quite late, but were on time for the game, most likely did not want to be there for the opening ceremony or whatever their excuse was. The attendance was 85 490 or so and eveything was so organised, it was AWESOME

Having just been to the fifa kick off celebration concert last night thanks to Michael. I can confirm that arriving early is essential. The crowd mentality of pushing and doing whatever to get to the stadium kicks in closer toward kick off time. Another point is when you leaving, either stay seated for two hours or leave 20 mins before the end, else you become like sardines and literally get squashed. So moral of the post, arrive early....leave late

So true. Better late than never :). Think how it is impossible to get your daughters/mothers/sisters out the house in the morning now imagine 83 000 people. Not going to happen
