Honesty

One of the assets I have always appreciated in staff is honesty. You always very quickly discover who is honest, when you make a double payment to staff by mistake. It appears Nedbank paid 17 of my staff members twice, by virtue of a technical error this past month and it is always interesting to see who tells you first that they have been paid twice as well as the staff members who claim that they did not notice or that they were expecting a “SARS refund” and spent the money or come up with some or other story as to why they thought you were paying that “extra” money to them there and then.

You can not be honest with anyone else if you are not honest with yourself first - a lot of people will tell a lie without even thinking about it and you sit there and think "do you have a twin" as it is commen knowlegde that you are not being honest at this moment. Working with an office where there are only women I see this everyday....

Honesty is a virtue that in my opinion every single person should cherish, only the honest that is..

I always say, what goes around comes around. It saves everybody time to just be honest. When you start lying you will keep on lying because it is easy and then, lie on top of a lie. I really thing that know one wants to live like that.

I once found a R10 just lying on the stairs, I remember thinking that this could be someones transport money home . . I found the person who it belonged to and remember how grateful they were. Such a simply gesture and it completeley changed my entire day from mediocre to wonderful. Heart filled with joy and swelling with pride. Another simple example of honesty and how it's a principle that we should all live by.

Always better to be honest, less lies to remember. I have more important things to remember than who I have told what too.

It is complete nonsense for anyone to claim they did not notice or they thought this or the next thing. Firstly a SARS refund is not the exact amount of your salary, and secondly if your bank balance is twice as much as it should be, there is something wrong and should immediately be investigated. Whilst it is nice seeing a fairly larger amount in your bank account, it is much better to honestly confront the company/person who paid extra and immediately rectify the mistake. I would never be able to live with myself if I kept money that i have not earned, and then come up with all sorts of ridiculous excuses as to why I spent the money.
